Sustainable Cities in Chiang Mai: A Case of a City in a Valley by Duongchan Apavatjrut Charoenmuang, edited by Carole Beauclerk and Tanet Charoenmuang, published by Urban Studies Section, Social Research Institute, Chiang Mai University.

Sustainable Cities in Chiang Mai: A Case of a City in a Valley is the fourth of the five-part "Sustainable City Project" series supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation. This segment explores the province of Chiang Mai, examining the sustainability an unsustainability of this area's development. Folk wisdom, local beliefs, traditional lifestyles, and Buddhist philosophy in combination with strengths of the citizenry, this research proposes, has the potential to positively influence sustainable growth in Chiang Mai.

Clay House

A signature part of the learning center is our clay house. Built from clay, sawdust, rubber parts, and bits of fabric, the clay house is a humble but stylish abode. Have you ever seen a lampshade made out of plastic bottle caps? You can also purchase UDIF publications and products made entirely from recycled materials in this building!
