𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚, 𝟐𝟐 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Chairman of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), today presided over the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed SPLM Deputy Chairpersons at the party’s national headquarters in Juba.
The ceremony marked the official induction of Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel as First Deputy Chairman, Mary Apai as Second Deputy Chairperson, and Simon Kun as Third Deputy Chairman.
In his remarks, President Kiir said he welcomes the new generation of SPLM leadership. He reflected on the movement’s origins, and paid tribute to its founding members.
He described the SPLM as a movement of struggle and hope, not belonging to any tribe or region, but to all South Sudanese.
He urged the new deputies to lead with unity and service, stating, “This is not a reward but a responsibility.” He called for results-driven leadership and emphasized national self-reliance through agriculture, declaring 2025 the Year of Agriculture.
Addressing youth, he said the future lies in their hands and urged them to learn from the past to lead the nation forward.
Vice President Dr. Bol Mel expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, pledging disciplined, loyal service. He committed to working with fellow deputies to build a strong team, uphold SPLM’s vision, and continue the legacy of past leaders. “I may be new to the position, but not to the struggle,” he noted.
The event was attended by senior government officials, SPLM Political Bureau members, and dignitaries from across the country.
