Give Commissioner General Amb. Muon Deng Ajuet Time to Deliver.

By Tito Ring Mawith

Leadership is often judged not only by the promises it makes but also by the opportunities it gives capable public servants to implement meaningful reforms. In South Sudan’s journey toward economic stability and institutional development, patience, consistency, and support for reform-minded leaders are essential ingredients for success.

One public official who deserves such support is the Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA), Ambassador Muon Deng Ajuet. Since assuming office, he has demonstrated commitment to strengthening revenue collection, promoting accountability, and restoring public confidence in one of the country’s most important institutions. While challenges remain, the direction of reform appears encouraging and deserves time to mature.

For many years, South Sudan has depended heavily on oil revenues, making it vulnerable to fluctuations in global markets and production challenges. Building a strong and efficient domestic revenue system is therefore not merely an administrative exercise but a national necessity. The South Sudan Revenue Authority plays a central role in ensuring that government has the resources needed to provide public services, invest in infrastructure, pay civil servants, and finance national development.

Transforming such an institution cannot happen overnight. It requires visionary leadership, cooperation from stakeholders, and unwavering political support from the highest levels of government. Any meaningful reform inevitably faces resistance, especially when it seeks to improve transparency, eliminate leakages, and strengthen compliance with tax and customs laws.

It is against this background that I respectfully call upon His Excellency General Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, together with the national leadership, to continue supporting Commissioner General Ambassador Muon Deng
