Sudan’s military leader, General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, has filed a case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), accusing it of complicity in genocide in Darfur by financing and arming the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The UAE has dismissed the case as a "publicity stunt." Burhan claims that arms supplied by the UAE have been delivered to the RSF through Chad. Burhan also accuses the RSF, led by Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, of genocide, murder, theft, r**e, and other crimes. Diplomatic sources suggest that the RSF’s recent formation of a parallel government in Nairobi may have prompted Burhan’s legal action.

Petroleum Minister Puot Kang arrested, says spokesman
The Minister of Petroleum and senior SPLM-IO member Puot Kang has been arrested along with his family members and bodyguards, his spokesman Sirir Gabriel confirmed.
Puot was reportedly taken into custody at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday at his residence in Juba by individuals identified as National Security Service personnel.
“At 2:00 a.m. on March 5, 2025, Hon. Puot Kang Chol, several family members, and his bodyguards were arrested at his residence in Juba. The operation was conducted by personnel identified as members of the National Security Service. No official explanation or legal basis for the detention has been provided to Hon. Puot Kang Chol,” Sirir said in a social media post.
He is the second senior SPLM-IO figure to be arrested this week, following the detention of SPLM-IO military leader and SSPDF Deputy Chief of Defence Duop Lam on Tuesday.
The arrests come amid rising tensions within the unity government as clashes between SSPDF, SPLA-IO, and allied militias intensify in Nasir, Upper Nile. On Tuesday, SPLA-IO and allied forces reportedly captured SSPDF soldiers, though casualty numbers remain unknown.
SSPDF spokesman Gen. L*l Ruai announced on Tuesday that his office would no longer issue press statements on the situation in Upper Nile, without providing a reason.
“SSPDF Spokesperson, as of now, is not in a position to provide media briefing on the security situation in Nasir and the surrounding areas,” L*l stated in a brief social media post, leaving room for speculation about the unfolding events.
Tensions have further escalated with a heavy military deployment around Juba’s Amarat area.
On Tuesday, SPLM-IO military spokesman Lam Paul confirmed in a media interview that Duop’s arrest was ordered by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Paul Nang but did not specify the reason, saying that L*l Ruai was the appropriate person to address the matter.
