It's with heavy sorrow and heart broken to have learned the untimely passing 💔 of Uncle Peter Dut Thiep Piol last night. It's indeed devastating and unfortunate to scape when people around you still need your help and presence.

A heartfelt condolences to his wife Aunti Agiir Yai ,his children especially the elder son Thiep and the entire family. The family had tried to keep your life Uncle unfortunate death couldn't be controlled. may you find peace in heaven 🙏 for your soul rest well in paradise 🙏 .

The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, H.E. Gen. Charles Madut Akol, on Wednesday joined the National Minister of Agriculture led delegation at the official launch of the 2026 rice planting season in Aweil.

The event, organized in collaboration with the National and State Ministries of Agriculture and FAO, WFP and local farming cooperatives, brought together National and State officials, development partners, and hundreds of farmers from across the state. The launch marks the beginning of this year’s cultivation period, with expectations of increased rice production to strengthen livelihoods and reduce dependency on food imports.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Madut reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to boosting agricultural production to ensure food security and encouraged farmers to take advantage of the fertile land and favorable weather conditions as well as emphasized agriculture as the backbone of the state’s economy. He reiterated his administration’s support for mechanized farming, improved seed distribution and expansion of rural roads to ease transportation of farm produce to markets.

The National Minister, Hon. Clement Juma pledged to address some the challenges facing farmers and to collaborate with partners and investors to support Aweil Rice Scheme to achieve sustainable farming and improve agricultural productivity in the country.

More than half a century after first walking alongside the fighters of the Anyanya movement, Israeli veteran David Uri Ben-Uziel returned to South Sudan on Thursday to receive one of the country's highest military honours.

In a ceremony at the Presidency, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit conferred upon Ben-Uziel the honorary rank of General in the South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF) and placed him on the force's non-active list, recognising his contribution to the southern liberation struggle during the 1960s and 1970s.

The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, H.E. Gen. Charles Madut Akol, on Tuesday officially launched the rehabilitation of the Wanyjok–Majok-Yinthiou road, a strategic route spanning approximately 100 kilometres and linking Aweil East County Headquarters to the Majok-Yinthiou Municipality along the South Sudan–Sudan border.

The launch ceremony, held at Mabior-Angony in Baac Payam, was attended by senior state government officials, the Commissioner of Aweil East County, the Deputy Mayor of Majok-Yinthiou Municipality and representatives of clearing agencies operating at the border.

The rehabilitation initiative is being financed through contributions from clearing agents and local community members, with technical and logistical support provided by the state and county governments. The project is expected to improve trade and cross-border movement, ease access to essential services and enhance connectivity between communities.📷📷
