What has happened at the 2026 World Cup over the last 48 hours:
• Swiss footballer Embolo's visa was put under review and he was only able to join his team days later.
• Iraqi national team player Aymen Hussein was held for questioning for nearly 7 hours upon entering the United States.
• The Iranian national team spent days dealing with visa procedures at the U.S. Consulate in Türkiye. The U.S. only allowed them entry on match days. Fifteen members of the delegation were denied visas.
• Omar Abdulkadir Artan, named CAF's Best African Referee of 2025, was denied a visa. Despite travelling to the U.S. with a diplomatic passport, he was refused entry and sent back. FIFA announced that he will not be able to officiate at the tournament.
• The South African national team arrived in the United States much later than planned because part of the delegation was not granted visas.
• Members of the Senegal national team staff were forced to remove their shoes and subjected to lengthy searches, sparking accusations of racism.
• The Uzbekistan national team was searched with bomb-sniffing dogs and the footage went viral in international media.
• Some Scottish supporters, despite being eligible to enter the U.S. visa-free under the ESTA programme, had their travel authorisations revoked just days before departure.
• Many supporters who had already bought tickets and booked accommodation had their visa applications rejected, resulting in financial losses.

MY PATH
I was born and raised by the great River Sewa, where the sound of flowing water became the first music I ever knew. Growing up along the riverbanks taught me lessons that no classroom could ever provide. As a child, the river was more than just water to me — it was life, survival, adventure, and home.
Every morning and evening, we lived with the rhythm of the river. I learned how to swim before I fully understood the dangers of the current. The River Sewa shaped my strength, courage, and determination. We crossed waters without fear, played in the streams, and watched fishermen struggle daily to provide for their families. Life by the river was not always easy, but it built resilience in me.
The river community taught me unity, respect, and hard work. We shared what little we had, supported one another during difficult times, and celebrated together during moments of joy. Those experiences molded my character and gave me the mindset to survive challenges in life.
As I grew older, football became another important part of my journey. From the dusty community fields to competitive matches, the game gave me purpose, discipline, and dreams beyond the riverbanks. I played for Kennedy FC, Hajfan FC, Ram Kamara FC, and Murray FC in Sierra Leone, developing myself as a strong and skillful winger wearing the number 11 jersey. My dribbling ability, speed, and passion for the game earned me respect on the field and taught me the value of teamwork, leadership, and perseverance.
Football, just like the River Sewa, shaped the man I am today. Both taught me how to fight through difficulties, remain focused, and keep moving forward no matter the obstacles. Today, I am a fully grown man carrying the strength of the river and the spirit of football within me. Though life has taken me beyond the shores of River Sewa, my roots, memories, and journey continue to inspire me every single day.
