Have you ever wondered what the inside of an 18th-century gown looks like? shares behind the seams of a late 1780s Robe à l’Anglaise from her personal collection!
At some point in it's history, the gown was turned into a separate bodice and petticoat, and the outer is constructed in silk with a linen lining. Sophia found the bodice has been b***d with baleen, with the center front bones placed at the internal lacing strips possibly made from iron.

We have some inspo to start your week off! 🤩This stunning gown was created by our Chief Operations Officer, Christina, for this year's Prior Attire Victorian Ball.
Based on the pictured fashion plate from the 1870s, the gown has some incredible embroidery, which Christina created with an embroidery machine.
