🔥 Istria by UTMB 2026: Grit, Data, & Progress – The Ultra Fitness Performance powered by Spectro.Life Recap

What a weekend in Istria! While the stunning views of Motovun and Grožnjan provided the backdrop, our athletes brought the drama. From battling viruses to pacing masterclasses, here is how the team performed across 100M, 110K, and 69K.

🏔️ 100M Race

Cosmin Pasca – Top 10 Open (21:47): A true display of mental fortitude. Cosmin entered the "pain cave" earlier than expected due to a virus that blocked fueling from 35km onward. Thanks to a prep focused on fat burning metabolism, he kept the engine running despite zero calories. To finish Top 10 under these conditions is monumental.

Karoly Csaki – DNF (Injury): An unfortunate turn. A pelvic issue from a training trip caught up early in the race. Karoly made the wise call to stop to protect his season and particularly his Lavaredo by UTMB race. We are sending speedy recovery vibes – the Dolomites are waiting for you! 🏔️

🏃‍♂️ 110K Race

Laszlo Szabo – 26th Open (12:47): First 100k+? No problem. Laszlo executed flawlessly in the heat. His avg HR was 1 beat off the Spectro.Life plan. That is precision and we can achieve it with the right tools for the job. We are grateful for our technical partner Garmin Romania who equipped all our runners with HRM 600 for exactly this 1 beat precision. We are sharpening this diamond for the next race, stay tuned.

Ciprian Zoicas – 47th Open (14:10): Speed was evident early on, but the heat mixed with homemade nutrition forced a brief slowdown. Lesson learned (twice is the charm!): stick to Hammer Nutrition in high temps. He confirmed his Primavera Trail result – huge upside for this season.

Erzsebet-Katalin Hodas – 22nd Gender / 2nd Category (16:25): Her longest race yet, and she conquered the technical terrain of Istria with pure patience. She recharged among the medieval walls of Motovun, Grožnjan, and Buje. A podium in category at this distance is elite.

⚡ 69K Race

Zsolt Kovacs – 40th Open / 3rd Category (7:43): Back after 3 years away from competition, Zsolt proved that class is permanent. His Hammer Nutrition was flawless across a surprisingly tough track mixing runnable flats with highly technical splits. Welcome back to the podium!

🎯 The Big Picture
We are incredibly proud of the 6 months of preparation and the progress we witnessed in the Multisport LAB pre and post tests. Yes, some performance was left on the table due to virus and injury, but that is fuel for the next races. Progress is what this project is all about – and these athletes showed pure determination.

Building on the incredible momentum of Season 1, we are doubling down on our mission to advance the careers of serious trail and ultra-runners using the power of data science and advanced methodologies.

A Look Back at Season 1 (The Numbers Don't Lie):
As our Season 1 athletes prepare for their target races at Transgrancanaria, Primavera, and Istria, the results are already in:
✅ Measurable Progress: Runners showed massive improvements in physiological metrics (confirmed by both field and lab tests).
✅ Race Wins: 4 by 3 different athletes in the first 3 months of the project, a World Championship presence, age group podiums and many others on the result list already - full retrospective is coming only after the target races conclude.
✅ Win-Win for Sponsors: Our partners gained premium visibility within a high-tech, high-ethic, and aspirational project.
✅ Collective Growth: Coaches and athletes learned immensely from each other in a competitive yet supportive environment.

As we start 2026 we have good news to share: the project "Ultrafitness Performance powered by Spectro.Life" just got rounded to 10, our initial objective for the first season of 6 months.

Cosmin Stan (ITRA 741) joined our team to shoot for new heights with the help of data science. We would like to wish him success for the seasons to come and the same for the other team members and our community of friends and followers.

It is great to see that a number of coaches are joining the project as athletes. This does not take anything away from their coaching career, it just shows how important it is for them to progress and this is what we do together by looking at all the data points as well as subjective data.

On 1st of January we have also started "Ultrafitness Advanced" with a number of runners. There are still a limited number of spots open. DM us if you'd like to get one of the last spots.
