Happy Monday ! Complex Mobile Concrete Plants help Air Force RED HORSE Units Pave the Way Forward

The U.S. Air Force’s RED HORSE units are a highly mobile civil engineering response force. During times of war, these units perform heavy damage repair and construction support. In peacetime, RED HORSE units perform training projects that assist base construction efforts while, at the same time, honing wartime skills.

Having the capability for mobile concrete operations is key to any RED HORSE squadron’s success. Runway repair and major construction projects are common missions for RED HORSE teams. In 2016, the Air Force issued an RFQ for two Central Mix Mobile Concrete Plants. These complicated pieces of equipment feature 5 major components which interact with each other to form the unit.

Fedharmony went to work identifying suppliers who could meet the Air Force’s complex requirements. Together with Vince Hagan, a leader in the innovation of concrete batching plants and equipment, Fedharmony was awarded the contract.

Fedharmony and Vince Hagan delivered the central mix concrete plants housed in a single mobile unit with automatic controls which is capable of producing 100 cubic yards of concrete mix per hour when accompanied with its mobile mixer unit. The plants were totally self-contained with no need for an outside power source other than a 10-amp 120 VAC power source for the control system. The plants were also self-erecting, which eliminated the need for cranes and resulted in substantial savings in set-up costs.

To deliver the plants, they both had to be airlift certified by the Air Force so that the entire apparatus and all components could be airlifted on C-17 and C-5 aircraft. In 2017, the plants were delivered to RED HORSE units at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Fort Smith, Arkansas and Anderson Air Force Base in Guam, allowing them to pave the way forward.
