MORBIFER – Diabolical Pride
Wygląda na to, że Morbifer lata stagnacji ma już za sobą, projekt od jakiegoś czasu regularnie wydaje swoje nowe materiały. W tym roku ukazało się demo „Diabolical Pride”, na którym krzyżuje się stare z nowym, że tak się wyrażę. Słychać kontynuację wcześniejszych dokonań, muzykę klimatyczną z dobrze dobranym poziomem monumentalizmu, bogatą w melodie, niepozbawioną zadziora i pogrążona w klimacie black metalu lat 90tych. Natomiast jak na moje ucho na nowej odsłonie Morbifer trochę bardziej się nam zradykalizował. Kompozycje są bardziej dynamiczne, kipią bardziej intensywną wściekłością. Słychać więcej ekspresji w aranżach, ba nawet chyba można pokusić się o stwierdzenie, że „Diabolical Prodej” w porównaniu do debiutu jest bardziej brutalny i zwarty w ten agresywny sposób. Samo brzmienie nabrało głębi przez co wydźwięk stał się bardziej intensywny i złowrogi. Nie rozumiem natomiast „przerywników” między utworami, które nawet metalem nie można nazwać, a kojarzą mi się z przaśnymi pieśniami, które chętnie na swoich wydawnictwach zamieszczały zespoły z pogańskiego nurtu naszej sceny drugiej połowy lat 90tych. Powiem szczerze, że trochę mi to nie licuje z resztą utworów. Reasumując nowość od Morbifer jest bardzo OK, dobrze zagrany i zaaranżowany black metal utrzymany w oldschoolowym nurcie.

Swego czasu dostałem promo debiutu jeszcze na cdr z drukowaną na plujce okładką. Nie wiem dlaczego, ale obraz z frontcoveru „Moroi” wrył mi się w pamięć chyba już do końca życia :) Sama muzyka aż tak bardzo w pamięci mi nie zapadła. Po 16 latach pojawia się nowy album „Black Hearts Open Darkness” i na nim się skupmy :) Kiedyś to było… Dlaczego tak piszę, bo Morbifer trzyma się starych patentów, dzisiaj można powiedzieć, że tak już się nie gra. Nad muzyką unosi się ta specyficzna aura, która towarzyszyła black metalowi pod koniec lat 90tych XX wieku i początku XXI wieku. Na „Black Hearts Open Darkness” nacisk położono na kreacje odpowiednie tzw. wampirycznej atmosfery, na klimat mroczny i tajemniczy. Kompozycje aranżacyjnie są dosyć proste, ale na tym polega ich urok, bez zbędnych komplikacji emocje przekuwane są w dźwięk, który całkiem celnie trafia w mój gust. Morbifer tworzy black metal melodyjny, momentami melancholijny, ale nie pozbawiony zadziora i dynamizmu. Niekontrolowanego wybuchu anty-boskiej nienawiści tu nie u świadczymy, ale jakoś mi tego nie brakuje na tym materiale, zbytnia gwałtowność zaburzyłaby spójność muzyki. Fajnie też, że zespół nie przesadził w patetycznością i monumentalizmem, przez co nowy album mógłby się zatracić w niekontrolowanej przesadnie napompowanej pseudosymfonicznej grotesce. Wiem, że nie każdego „Black Hearts Open Darkness” przekona do siebie, to dosyć wąska nisza dzisiaj, chociaż takie granie powoli odbudowuje swoją pozycję, wychodzi na to, że cykl zatacza koło...

Not long ago, I reviewed the band's second album, "Black Hearts Open Darkness", released late last year, and MORBIFER strikes again. This time, it's the demo "Diabolical Pride", released on a carefully crafted digipack limited to 33 copies.
It seems that during his several-year break, Tyrant hasn't been idle, accumulating a wealth of material that is now, polished, is starting to crawling into the light of day. And that's a good thing, because the second album is strong, and after the single announcing this new release, I really had high hopes. And I wasn't disappointed. Although it's just a demo, it's truly of a very high standard. Besides, MORBIFER hasn't dropped a certain level since their debut "Moroi" was published, where the band defined their style and consistently explores it. And although, as in the case of previous releases, we have here broadly understood, cold, atmospheric Black Metal in a mainly Scandinavian style (old EMPEROR, GEHENNA, OLD MAN'S CHILD) with frequent use of keyboards, "Diabolical Pride" stands out a bit from the rest. There's a certain element here that I'd call "Slavic", something I associate with PERUNWIT, for example. This is due to these atmospheric non-metal tracks, one of which sounds almost ballad-like, while the last one gives the whole thing feel of early LUX OCCULTA.
MORBIFER is growing, searching. It's ambitious, creative, and determined. This demo is so addictive and so unpredictable that I'd say it's one of the best Black Metal things I've heard this year. Listen to this material a few times - it will completely captivate you.

After a long period of silence, the Polish band MORBIFER returned last year with their second album, "Black Hearts Open Darkness". And it seems he's back more motivated than ever before, because as I write these words, the next, third album is taking shape.
As far as I know, Tyrant alone stayed on board, but he invited several well-known figures in the Polish Metal underground to collaborate, which undoubtedly increased the attractiveness of this release. Atmospheric, cold Black Metal, inspired by the early days of the Norwegian second wave. The keyboard-driven, slightly symphonic backdrops bring to mind old GEHENNA, the early days of EMPEROR, and, to some extent, SATYRICON. It may seem like a simple music, but it is not devoid of a certain kind of finesse, as one cannot complain about a lack of variety here. Each subsequent composition brings something new, either a "castle-like", dark aura or a vampiric charm. And those two Ambient intros also fit in perfectly. Yes, the atmosphere here is truly exquisite.
I'm so happy to see MORBIFER return. And with truly solid style, stronger than ever. I'm already rubbing my hands in anticipation of the next release. The promotional single is already posted online (Forever Misanthropia channel on YouTube) and I can tell you that there is something to wait for, because it could be a strong hit.
