In recent weeks, an alarming situation has erupted in several areas of Gilgit Baltistan, particularly in the Ghizer district. 116 males and 110 females committed su***de between 2021-2022, with Ghizer district accounting for 8.1% of the total.
What drives people to consider Su***de?
Mental illness, family violence, traumatic stress, hopelessness, substance use, social isolation, social institutions, and generational gap are the leading causes of su***de. We can prevent su***de by implementing the World Health Organization's Multi-sector Approach (deliberate collaboration among various stakeholder groups (e.g., government, civil society, and private sector) and sectors (e.g., health, environment, and economy) to jointly achieve a policy outcome).
Another important issue in our society is the stigma attached to mental health. Because of the stigma associated with mental health, most people are unaware of the importance of discussing it. Half of our problems will be solved if we can overcome this stigma. Let's break this stigma and talk about people's mental health and help a person fight it.
