My 2nd Open Letter to
Mayor Greggy Ramos of Cajidiocan, Sibuyan, Romblon
21st of March 2024
Dear Mayor,
I thought I would not be writing this anymore because you might accuse me of continually criticizing you instead of acknowledging the positive contributions you have made. However, after reviewing your social media posts and statements, I find it necessary to address certain concerns.
One statement of yours particularly caught my attention: "Whatever project is given to my town, I would support it because if not, my town might end up on the blacklist." This remark reveals to me that decisions regarding projects in your town are not entirely under your control, but rather dictated from higher authorities (presumably at the national level). This suggests that perhaps those above you are primarily focused on securing funds from the Philippine Treasury, presenting infrastructure projects like seawalls and roads merely to justify these allocations, regardless of whether they are truly necessary for the people. The result is a system where funds may be misappropriated, eroding trust in government and hindering economic progress.
While I commend your efforts to provide assistance, such as the aid for seniors that occasionally comes from your own pocket, I urge you to heed the wisdom of Confucius: "Give a bowl of rice to a man and you'll feed him for a day. Teach him how to grow his own rice and you'll save his life." It is essential to invest in projects that empower communities and address fundamental needs, projects that can truly save lives.
Presently, the projects I observe—covered courts, seawalls, sea ambulances, and even a "CAJIDIOCAN Hollywood-style sign"—while visually appealing, do not address the immediate needs of the people. Even the Sibuyan Emergency Hospital urgently requires attention, yet it seems absent from your agenda.
Moreover, the employment of your father as executive administrator, with a salary of 69K, appears to be an unnecessary drain on public funds. It raises questions about whether he, too, is influenced by higher authorities. Transparency regarding such appointments is crucial for maintaining public trust.
It saddens me to see a promising young mayor like yourself seemingly entangled in a web of unnecessary projects and questionable practices. As a lawyer, you possess the knowledge and power to advocate for your people and challenge these injustices. However, your actions thus far suggest a reluctance to confront these issues, which only exacerbates the situation.
Please understand that my intention is not to attack your character but to remind you of the responsibilities entrusted to you by the people. You have the capacity to lead with integrity and prioritize the welfare of your constituents over the interests of higher authorities. It is never too late to course-correct and work towards a better future for Cajidiocan and beyond.
I implore you to listen to the voices of the people, not just the directives from above. Rise above the political games and be the leader your community deserves.
Sincerely,
Gene "rocky" Romero Roxas
