"YOUR DEGREE DOES NOT DEFINE THE LIMITS OF YOUR FUTURE”

John Edward Angeles Mendoza, an alumnus from the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM), says during the 20th St. Hyacinth Recognition Day. He emphasizes that commitment, compassion and perseverance matter more than the titles or achievements.

Sharing his own journey from being a hospitality student to becoming an agribusiness leader, he encourages students to continue pursuing excellence outside the classroom.

dressed in robes of torture, adorned with suffering
for the years that will plague us,
in a world of unknown paths.

of possibilities and the time of tides.
You would have loved cartoons and dance trends
and young dreams of growing up.
You would have loved us in robes of blue and green
and seeing a future no one has ever seen.

You have loved us wearing pressure dressed as pride
with our dreams we wish to confide.
You have loved to watch us grow between deadlines and snow
of endless coffee and our screen documents’ light glow.
You have loved us grow in your cold and impending stress
and have loved us living for the hope of it all.

You have loved us in our ups and downs
in our beginnings and endings of something new.
You have loved us burnt out and came out strong
we’re not fully grown but bold in the throng.
You have loved us in our past and present, and so in the summer.

NEW ERA AHEAD, BATCH 2026 ✨
