Do you still remember these Biolink commercials? Some were funny and made people laugh, but others are now talked about because of colorism and how they showed lighter skin as “better.” These ads bring us back to a time when skin whitening was a big trend in the Philippines. Until now, people still debate if it was just harmless advertising or if it carried deeper issues about beauty standards. Biolink was made by Splash Corporation, a homegrown Filipino company founded in 1985 by Dr. Rolando and Dr. Rosalinda Hortaleza. From a small backyard business, Splash grew into a billion peso company known for personal care products like SkinWhite, Extract, and Biolink. Later, they even expanded into food by acquiring Barrio Fiesta in 2011 and Moondish in 2012. Splash was later acquired by Wipro, but its legacy as a Filipino success story lives on.
