I’m tired of learning stuff I feel like I should already know 🥴 Any ideas what this gap is actually for?

I found this plate at Goodwill today and absolutely had to have it. I'm not a plate collector, but this one kept calling to me. I put it down and picked it up about 5 times. It reminds me of a peacock. So beautiful!

TO WHOEVER CALLED AND GOT ​​MY CAR TOWED FROM THE VETERAN PARKING LOT AT HOME DEPOT… are you seriously serious???
I was inside for maybe FIVE minutes. I went in briefly, grabbed what I needed, and came right back out, and my car was gone. No ticket. No warning. TOWED.
I wasn't parked there all day. I wasn't using it as my own parking spot. I wasn't blocking traffic. I went in and out, and apparently that was enough for someone to decide they needed to act like a parking police officer.
Now I'm stuck dealing with the tow truck parking lot, the expense, the wasted time, and the mess because someone couldn't mind their own business for five minutes.
And no, I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for this without fighting it. This is absolutely ridiculous. Would you be upset too, or do you think they were right to report it?
