Oh oh… 🥴

It’s been begging for a simple filling for months 😅

Let’s be real, often your toddler is NOT walking happily to lay down for their nightly teeth brushing like the child in this video. BUT this child happily does it because it’s been consistently part of their routine and they know what to expect!

If brushing your little one’s teeth currently feels like wrestling a tiny alligator, stick with the routine and don’t cave in from the chaos. Consistent brushing is SO important for teaching proper hygiene and keeping those pearly whites healthy! 🪥✨And sticking with it teaches them this is just part of their routine—and trust me, the resistance WILL get better over time.

We had to use the legs over arm technique to brush our son and initially he fought it and cried. We stayed positive, talked to him, and were consistent and eventually he happily brushed like the child in this video. Knowing various techniques is important as no two kids are the same.

Here are some tips to reduce brushing battles:
✅ Knee-to-knee technique: With two caregivers, one sits knee-to-knee with the other, and your toddler lays across both laps. This keeps them secure while you brush.
✅ Knees-over-arms method: If you’re solo, lay them on the floor with their head toward you and gently cover their arms with your knees as seen in the video.
✅ Other tips:
- Let them “brush” first to give them a sense of control, then you finish up.
- Sing a silly song or let them hold a favorite toy for distraction.
-Let them brush their stuffy’s teeth first to make it playful and
- Use a fun toothbrush or flavored toothpaste to make it exciting.
-Remain calm while you brush and repeat the boundary and the why. “We brush our teeth to keep our teeth healthy.” “We brush to get the sugar bunnies out.”

If you found this helpful, share this reel to your stories and follow @pedsdoctalk for more health, development, and parenting content.

It’s not always easy, but you’re setting them up for healthy habits they’ll carry for life. 💕 How do you tackle toddler toothbrushing battles? Share your tips below! 👇🪥 #ToddlerLife #ToothBrushingTips #PedsDocTalk 17/03/2025
