The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) commemorates the 3rd Death Anniversary of National Scientist Angel C. Alcala.
National Scientist Alcala was recognized for his exceptional contributions to the systematics, ecology, and diversity of amphibians and reptiles, as well as marine biodiversity, reef fishes, and the conservation of marine protected areas. Through his extensive research, he discovered and documented numerous new species of Philippine amphibians, proving that our forests are among the most biologically diverse places on Earth. Beyond his work on land, he was the primary advocate for the establishment of "no-take zones" underwater sanctuaries where fishing is strictly prohibited to allow marine life to recover and thrive.
