MMSU Strengthens Dental Education through Faculty Development Workshop
The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), through its College of Dentistry and in collaboration with the Curriculum Development & Innovative Learning and Center for Teaching Excellence, conducted a capability-building seminar titled β€œEnabling Dental Educators for Quality Outcomes: Foundations of Student-Centered Pedagogy, Assessment, and Instructional Material Development” on March 17, 2026 at the College of Dentistry.
The one-day training aimed to enhance the pedagogical competencies of dental educators by equipping them with effective strategies in outcomes-based education (OBE), student-centered teaching approaches, classroom assessment practices, and instructional material development. The activity forms part of the university’s continuing effort to strengthen quality instruction and promote meaningful learning experiences among students.
The program opened with a welcome message from Artemio R. Licos Jr., Dean of the College of Dentistry, followed by a message from Aris Reynold V. Cajigal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Romelyn T. Lagura, Chief of CTEx shared the statement of objectives.
Faculty experts shared insights on various aspects of effective teaching and learning. Luvee Hazel C. Aquino, Director for Curriculum Development and Innovative Learning, discussed the operationalization of the MMSU Outcomes-Based Education framework in dental education. This was followed by a session on engaging learners through student-centered teaching strategies delivered by Madeline T. Fernando from the College of Teacher Education.
Further strengthening the focus on quality learning outcomes, Lilybeth C. Agno facilitated a session on improving classroom assessment practices to support better student learning, while Bryan Eli B. Sadorra, Chief for Instructional Materials Development, guided participants in developing instructional materials aligned with course learning outcomes.
Participants also engaged in an integrative workshop, where they collaboratively developed instructional materials tailored for dental education and presented their outputs.
Through initiatives such as this, MMSU continues to uphold its commitment to empowering educators and promoting innovative, learner-centered instruction for quality academic outcomes.
