Filipino physician, patriot, and philanthropist Ariston Bautista Lin was born on February 22, 1863, to Mariano Bautista and Teresa Limpingco in Santa Cruz, Manila.
Bautista earned his ๐๐ช๐ค๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ค๐ช๐ข๐ฅ๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ช๐ค๐ช๐ฏ๐ข degree at the University of Santo Tomas in 1885. He pursued further medical education at the Universidad Central de Madrid, where he obtained the degree of ๐๐ฐ๐ค๐ต๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ช๐ค๐ช๐ฏ๐ข after presenting his thesis, "Consideraciones Acerca de los Abscesos del Hรญgado en los Climas Cรกlidos" (Considerations on Liver Abscesses in Warm Climates) in 1892.
After his involvement in the Propaganda Movement and the Malolos Republic, Bautista joined the faculty of the UP College of Medicine and Surgery in 1907. Considered an expert in clinical medicine and therapeutics, he succeeded William Musgrave as Head of the Department of Medicine from 1916 to 1917, becoming the first Filipino to hold this position.
