Not my picture, but this exact thing is now happily in my tummy.

Atticus Finch in Rotorua.
If you haven't been there, you really should.

My husband is an amazing cook. He cooks our dinners most nights (because his love language is food, he enjoys cooking, and because he is better at it than me).
He cooks so good that when we do go out, we are usually disappointed (as hubby can usually make better, for cheaper, at home).
But never with Atticus Finch.
It delivers every single time.

Tonight we had a date night (many thanks to my sister who took all three kids so we got a few hours to be adults). Our initial plan was to go to Yamato (lovely Japanese restaurant here) but they were full. Atticus Finch is usually packed Friday and Saturday nights (make renovations!!!) so we thought we would be outta luck BUT THEY HAD A SEAT and so we feasted 🀀🀀🀀 Every single bite was a freakin delight.
I hate beans, not that keen on spices in dishes, and kidneys 😬😳πŸ«ͺ absolutely not!!
And yet their lamb meal had all of these things and I ATE!! Almost licked the plate.
Nomnomnom
You know a meal is gooooooooood when it comes with ingredients you dislike but then the dish has you rethinking reality πŸ˜…πŸ€€πŸ˜‹

Anyway, now I am overly full and yet I would still eat more because it was sooooo damn tasty!

Many thanks to the team there; date night was a massive success πŸ₯°

My back is being weird again (sciatica???) so I'm chilling on the bed with my boys, heat back doing it's thing and the small one is hand-feeding me Doritos.
Not how I planned on spending my Saturday but still not a bad way to spend the day.
What are you guys up to?

Same same, but different πŸ˜‹

Turns out the first one was a fluke as the second one seemed to take WAY longer πŸ€” to be fair, I ran outta white paint so I used a different paint and it was A LOT thicker. This meant that blending was an issue - not only was I trying to deal with the contrast of the black and white, but I also had to deal with the different thickness and texture of the paint.

Not a problem, it's all a learning curve πŸ€—

I have also run out of canvas for now, so this one was painted overtop of Vic's painting attempt from last weekend (hence the texture that you can see on the bottom piece - he was very generous with his paints πŸ˜…).

Right.
Next mission - get more canvas and play more (I went back into Pinterest so I have MUCH MORE inspiration).

Take two πŸ€πŸ©ΆπŸ–€

Let's see if the first attempt was a fluke πŸ˜‰

Touch.
This dude still sleeps in my bed, because whether he is drinking his bottle or falling asleep, he seeks out some form of touch.
In fact, he has slept through the night from pretty early on, but only while being in almost constant contact with another.

I am so thankful that his neurospicey comes in the form that craves touch and affection.
Some days, when I feel overstimulated and out-touched, it can be pretty overwhelming.
But then I am very aware that some families miss out on this, so I breathe in and out, calm my s**t down, and embrace his need for physical connection.

Good night everyone xx sweet dreams.

I am tired and worn out.
I'm on week two of functioning on very low energy (sick for the first week, premenstrual for this second week).
In my typical fashion, I've still tried to do it all.
When I was sick and off work, I spent the days creating (and Friday onwards looking after Vic as well). I also tried to stay up to date with keeping the house tidy (huge fail on that front, I'm convinced there are 9 other people living here in secret, just making a mess and creating washing and dishes whenever I turn around).
Now that I'm back at work...well...let's just say it feels like I've worked a full week already and it's only Wednesday 🫩
And then hormones...
Mate.
How do you do it?
Why do I keep hitting walls?
Are these walls that I've put up myself, or are walls being built around me and I'm just oblivious until I smack straight into one?

I ended up drinking half the cup of tea (not in peace but instead it was had amongst all the chaos) before I was called for duty.
The other half was remembered down the track and was consumed cold.
To the people that drink their tea while it's hot - how do you life? Please send advice.

Alright team, I need to raise some funds to get some canvases and materials (those cheap brand acrylic paints are...something...) so I'm selling these four pieces.

All are 8" by 10", and $25 each.

Also happy to take commissions on anything I have done so far, or try my hand at making one of the other pieces from Pinterest πŸ˜…

I wanna start building up some moolah so I can invest in the next step of my venture 🎨

I was so excited to get my first earring commission...funny how quickly that feeling turned to dread, self-sabotage and then a complete creative shutdown.

This person took me aside today and asked if I was ok. She knew that I had made some earrings to show her because I had sent her pictures the day I had made them; she wondered why I hadn't actually brought them in. Then she put two and two together and was able to voice all the concerns I was feeling. She made me feel seen and safe by confirming that she would let me know if she didn't like them, or if she preferred changes to be made.

I think my biggest fear in the creative space is that people will pretend to like my creations in order to not hurt my feelings.
I understand that not everyone is going to like the same things I do, and I am completely ok with that. I am even ok with people letting me know what it is they don't like about my stuff, because then it gives me the ability to change it if I can see their point of view.

What I don't want is people to pity-purchase, and then never wear/hang the stuff I make. I don't see the point of buying things that don't genuinely make you happy. I don't like the thought of my time and energy being put aside or stored or thrown away.

Anyway, once we had finished that conversation and I knew I was safe and in an open and honest relationship, the creative door flew open and I was able to finish not only her three pairs, but I also completed four other sets that had been sitting in the void that whole time.

Moral of the day:
Commissions are exciting and terrifying.

5 days feeling under the weather; 5 completed pieces.
I've enjoyed getting back into creating on this level πŸ₯° I enjoyed playing with paint, ripping up old magazines and books (blasphemy I know, but the books were damaged at the beginning, I promise!!) and exploring different ways to get different shapes onto each piece.
Will definitely keep going on this path, it's made my brain happy and made being sick MUCH more bearable! 😁 will just need to sell some things off so I can buy some more canvas before I keep going, and possibly some better quality paints 😳 I didn't know that it mattered...it so totally matters πŸ˜‘

I can't pick which one is my fav πŸ€”
Is there one in particular that you like more than the others?

Onto the next.
I won't get to finish this one today as I am pooooooooooped!!! Being sick SUCKS!!!

I'm pretty sure I'm happy with the base now, although I may still get up in the morning and add a few things here and there. We'll see.

All that's left to do is to stick the millions of petals on (and possibly make some more if I need to - have put some magazine pages with the colours I want aside, just in case).

I also took a photo of some of my process/mess 😜 I didn't have a hexagon and I couldn't find a ruler in the two seconds that I looked, so I improvised and made-do.

Looking forward to getting this finished tomorrow, then might need to put the art stuff away so I can catch up on life and such 😁
