Hello everyone. A small update from us. We will be away from the 5th to the 15th of December and won’t be able to take in any new rescues during this time. We can still help with advice where needed. If a bird needs urgent care, please take them straight to your nearest vet. You can also reach out to Hunua Bird Life, BirdCare Aotearoa in Green Bay, or the South Auckland Rescue Birds group, who may be able to assist while we are away. Thank you so much for your understanding and for continuing to look out for our local birdlife.🫶🙏🥰

Poor Naily has had a tough few days. I’m so grateful to the lovely local family who found him unwell on their deck and reached out straight away. I always band the birds I’ve previously rescued so if anything ever happens, I can identify them quickly and make sure they get the care they need. It also helps keep them safe from harm.

The first image is Naily in care. The second is from the family who found him. He saw vet Maggie today and is now on antibiotics and pain relief, resting safely in our little quarantine area. We suspect a cat may have got hold of him, so he was very lucky to be found when he was.

And if you are wondering where his name comes from, it’s because of his very long little nails.

If anyone would like to support the rescue, we would sincerely appreciate it. We are currently running with no funds on hand, so any kindness from the community helps us keep caring for birds like Naily. Thank you so much.
