Welcome to The Earl, Howicks new local.

When we were considering our new name, we wanted a name that linked to the history of Howick.

Howick was named in 1847 by Governor George Grey after Henry George Grey, the 3rd Earl Grey — also known as Viscount Howick.
At the time, Earl Grey was Britain’s Secretary of State for the Colonies and was closely linked to the Fencible settlement scheme that helped establish Howick as one of Auckland’s early colonial villages.
The name Howick itself comes from Howick Hall in Northumberland, England, the Grey family’s ancestral home.
So ‘The Earl’ is our way of tipping the hat to the story behind the place we call home.

Cheers
