A key focus for us here at NZ Strong is the mental wellbeing of our staff and colleagues which is why we are delighted to embark on a partnership with MATES in Construction to address the significant impact of mental health, stress and su***de within our industry. Talking is the first step to addressing these issues and MATES are all about prompting those difficult conversations.

We encourage you all to take time today to reflect on the excessively high su***de rates in New Zealand and check in with someone who might be struggling. We stand in solidarity with the rest of the construction industry to work together to reduce su***de and improve mental wellbeing. Together we can make a change.

At NZ Strong, we actively involve all our staff, at all levels, in all aspects of the planning and assessment of tasks, risk assessments and management of our health and safety processes. Without the active participation of our people, our systems are only that – systems.

We also continuously provide comprehensive training and encourage up-skilling wherever possible to ensure that our people are the committed driving force behind our health and safety culture.

From feedback received from our recent Employee Engagement Survey, when staff were asked “How do you currently rate NZ Strong’s Health and Safety systems culture?”

100% of staff surveyed rated our Health & Safety culture a 6 or higher out of 10, with 90% rating it 8 or higher out of 10.
