Using your Six Senses to Ground You
This can sound too easy but at any given moment it is really a great way to handle being in the now. Since so much of what you do is mentally inspired, it is sometimes taken for granted that your senses naturally pick up. But your senses warn you and inform you, at least on an unconscious state, of what is going on around you. Learn by paying attention to what you see, feel, hear, taste, touch. This really works especially well when you feel nervous and/or depressed. Quit worrying, and experience actively what your senses are bringing to your attention.
Focusing on your senses at the very least can get you out of your mind at the moment. You'll learn a new solution to help you control your emotions and reaction on a continuous basis. Note, until our lives became fully dependent on them, our senses alerted us to our surroundings and helped us survive. Our senses and instincts have taken a rear seat to our very busy mental lives in the course of evolution.
