In the final guest session of AI Conclave 2026, Mr. Dilip Bhattarai, Associate Director at the Asian Institute of Artificial Intelligence, provided a visionary look at AI’s transformative potential for Nepal. He highlighted the country’s significant strides in developing its own large language models (LLMs), emphasizing that digital sovereignty is essential for national security and cultural preservation in the digital age. By advocating for inclusive AI development and robust policy and research support, Mr. Bhattarai outlined a clear path for sustainable growth, ensuring Nepal’s tech ecosystem thrives on its own terms.

As part of National AI Summit 2026, the panel discussion themed “Bursting the LLM Obesity Bubble” set the tone for critical conversations on the future of AI.
Moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Manoj Shakya, Former Head of the Department of AI at Kathmandu University, the session brought together experts from academia and industry to bridge research with real-world application.

Mr. Rojesh Man Shikhrakar (Senior Manager – Talent Development, Fusemachines) traced the evolution of AI from traditional models like SVMs to prompting-based foundational models, highlighting this shift as a stepping stone toward multimodal and agentic AI systems.

Mr. Ram Sharma Bhattarai (Founder & Director, Jyrasoft) shared industry insights on the transition from generative outputs to automation-driven, action-oriented AI agents.

Dr. Bhoj Raj Ghimire (Head of School of IT, Nepal Open University) addressed Nepal’s AI readiness, emphasizing the need for structured data, better bandwidth, and a national data exchange platform.

The session concluded with a strong message for students and practitioners alike: focus on fundamentals, project-based learning, and building systems that create real impact.
