Every failure leaves a lesson. Every lesson builds a safer future. 🏗️...

🟠 In seismic design, a building does not fail only due to a lack of strength; very often, it fails due to uncontrolled torsion.
🔹 Centre of Mass (CM) is where the seismic inertia forces act.
🔹 Centre of Stiffness (CS) is where the lateral resistance of the structure concentrates.
When CM ≠ CS ➝ eccentricity (e) is introduced ➝ torsional moment develops.
This torsion amplifies:
• Column forces
• Storey drifts
• Edge member demands
• Local damage in earthquakes
Note:
👉 Even in perfectly symmetric buildings, torsion must still be considered.
