Antigua’s Alfombras. Colourful temporary carpets fill the cobblestone streets of this Guatemalan city during Semana Santa (Easter) each year. Intricate patterns handed down through generations and created in a mix of religious and local cultural tradition that brings families and communities together in heartfelt celebration.
Unfortunately, this year the artistry and tradition of Holy Week in Antigua was cancelled. We have published a tribute to all the beautiful alfombras that have been created in the past and in recognition of the families that will carry the tradition into the future: Link in Bio to “Magic Carpets Coloured by Culture and Community.
