IKOT EKPENE CHAIRMAN RECEIVES GOVERNOR ENO FOR WOMEN SENSITISATION TOUR

In an array of reflective color of white attire on Arise Women wrappers were Ikot Ekpene Women in preparedness for awareness campaign tagged, Sensitisation Tour on Civic Responsibilities in readiness to declare their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Pastor Umo Eno

The women at the event were urged to engage in grassroots civic responsibilities that ensure women at various political units and wards participate in the ongoing voter registration, e-registration as well as APC party registration.

Launching the Women Sensitisation Tour on Civic Responsibilities at a ceremony held on the theme, “Women Arise” at the Ikot Ekpene Town-Hall today 26th January, 2026 the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno represented by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, lauded the women for their participation in community development, urging them to mobilise eligible women, and their children, citizens and residents to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), reiterating that, robust voter turnout will be required for 2027 polls.

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, advised women who have attained the age of 18, and those who misplaced or had damaged PVCs, to take advantage of the registration, replacement and revalidation exercise, participate in All Progressives Congress (APC) Membership Registration, adding that, one of the ways to influence development and governance at the grassroots and national levels entails citizens duty to discharge their civic responsibilities.

The Governor disclosed his administration's support for women and the belief for women capacity development, with the aim to contribute meaningfully to governance through the allocation of over 40 percent for women participation in governance in the State, adding that, the 2026 budget makes provision for ₦31 billion for empowerment, with ₦1 billion allocated to each local government area, from which women will be major beneficiaries.

In her remarks, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Obareki, urged the women to Arise in support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.

Setting the tone for event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Inibehe Silas, had said, that the tour was organized to educate and empower women in local government areas across the State to aid them on effectively discharging their civic responsibilities.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon Aniefiok Nkom commended the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for enduring inclusive leadership in his administration and applauding him for the developmental projects cited in Ikot Ekpene local government area including road construction, like the 1.1km spring road, and other road projects, the compassionate homes and the proposed international market and urged the women to ensure they acquire their voters’ cards to be eligible to participate and benefit from government programmes.

In a vote of thanks, the Wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Affiong Nkom who is also the Chapter Coordinator of the Arise Women, had thanked Governor Umo Eno for the exercise, pledging women in the area's support for his administration.

In their messages of goodwill from stakeholders in the local government area commended the initiative, assuring their participations in sensitizing women for Voter’s and E-registration, pledged to return President Tinubu, Senator Akpabio and Pastor Umo Eno at 2027 polls.

The sensitisation tour is organised to deepen civic responsibility, promote inclusive governance and socio-political development of the State.

HON. NKOM PROMISES MEDICAL, FINANCIAL SUPPORTS TO NIGERIA LEGION IN IKOT EKPENE

Welfare of members of the Nigerian Legions and widows of the fallen heroes of the Nigeria Armed Forces has been considered as a necessity in recognition of the selfless services they offer to humanity.

The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom stated this Thursday, 15th January, 2026, at the Ikot Ekpene Cenotaph during the grand finale and laying of wreaths for 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

Hon Nkom who re-echoed his commitment to the ex-servicemen and widows of the Nigerian Legionnaires, providing cash to them, also promised his administration's support toward their medical need.

The Council Chairman however solicited for collaboration and contributions from others at various levels of leadership for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Legions and widows of the fallen heroes.

Hon. Nkom said, his administration will ensure that the veterans of the Armed Forces in Ikot Ekpene will be engaged to provide security services at the Ikot Ekpene Local Government premises and promised to secure office space for the Nigerian Legions.

He said, Armed Forces Remembrance Day is set aside by the Federal Government to honour and remember Nigerian gallant soldiers who selflessly exhibited great courage, loyalty and service to the country by defending and justifying the liberty as well as sovereignty of the human race.

While acknowledging, and appreciating the sacrifices and commending the servicemen for their services, commitment, and show of love, Hon. Nkom called on the public to support them morally and materially.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legions in Ikot Ekpene, Squadron Nseabasi Inyang solicited for support for the wellbeing of the Legionnaires and their dependants calling for donations towards the programme.

While recounting the viable projects embarked through provision of employment to the ex-service men, he commended the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for catering for them, and requested office and meeting hall, as he pledged to support the Local Government Chairman towards achieving a peaceful and equitable Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

Witnessing the event were, the Vice Chairman, Obonganwan Abigail Akpan, Leader of Ikot Ekpene Legislature, Hon. Nkereuwem Umoh, Council Secretary, Mr Unyime Akpan, Head of Local Government Service, Elder Edet Ukosin, SA to Governor on Youth Mobilization for Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency, Sir John Cleton, Service Chiefs, Councillors, Supervisors, Stakeholders, members of the NULGE, among others.

The event which climaxed with the laying of wreaths in honour of the fallen heroes also witnessed launching of emblem for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
