I always get comments or messages from people saying they admire the relationship I have with my daughter.
But what they don't see is how intentional I had to be to create that
This might sound crazy to some but showing her love didn't come naturally. I didn't grow up that way or see it around me so it was foreign to me.
"Tough love" was all I knew and I used to feel like I couldn't love her too much.
When I realized I was doing this I literally broke down crying because I knew my past traumas were getting in the way of how I loved my own daughter.
That same day I cut that cycle and started to be intentional and more present with her every day.
I write this to let you know you can have that with your kids too. Your past doesn't have to define your present moment or future.
The cycle can end with you.
Notice the pattern, forgive yourself and do better.
