OPEN LETTER TO A FORMER GOVERNOR OF EKITI STATE, H.E. AYO FAYOSE
I write to you today with a heavy heart, not out of judgment, but out of genuine concern for the path you are taking and the legacy you are shaping. Friendship demands honesty, especially when the truth is necessary for growth and reflection.
Recently, during the celebration of your 65th birthday—a gathering that attracted dignitaries from all walks of life—many of your actions raised deep concerns. A moment that should have reflected maturity, gratitude, and statesmanship instead exposed attitudes that do not honour the respected man you once were known to be.
It pained many of us to observe the way relationships that once meant everything to you have been pushed aside. Your family, the first foundation God gave you, has felt the sting of betrayal born out of decisions driven by greed and personal ambition. No achievement or celebration in life is complete when the people who stood by you from the beginning now stand wounded.
Even more troubling is your growing distance from the political party that gave you the platform to serve two full terms as governor. Loyalty is one of the highest currencies in leadership. To abandon the very structure that lifted you is to cut yourself off from the roots that gave you shade when life’s sun was harsh.
And then, the public display of disrespect toward elders—men and women whose grey hairs represent years of service, sacrifice, and wisdom. Leadership without humility becomes noise. Respect for elders is not a cultural obligation alone; it is a reflection of a man’s inner discipline and value system.
My friend, birthdays are not just celebrations. They are mirrors. They remind us of how far we have come and how far we have drifted. At 65, legacy should matter more than applause. Relationships should matter more than political calculations. Honour should matter more than pride.
I am writing because I believe there is still time to correct this course. It is not too late to rebuild broken bridges, to return to the values that once shaped you, and to restore dignity where it has been lost.
Go back to your family—heal the wounds quietly and sincerely. Reconnect with the political platform that once trusted you—humility is not weakness. And above all, let respect be the fragrance that follows you wherever you are seen or heard.
True greatness is not measured by the crowd that attends your birthday, but by the hearts that bless your name when you are not in the room.
I hope you take this message with the love and sincerity with which it is written.
