*The Eternal Fight Within: A Mu’min’s Struggle With His Heart*

The true battleground of a Muslim is not always on the outside, it is often within. The Mu’min (believer) fights a quiet, ongoing war in his heart every single day. It is not a war of swords or enemies, but of desires, doubts, whispers (waswas), laziness, arrogance, and attachments that threaten to distance him from his Lord.

This heart is where īmān resides, and where shayṭān constantly seeks entry.

One moment, the heart softens at the remembrance of Allah. The next, it is distracted by the glitter of the dunya. One moment, it trembles during sujood. The next, it longs for attention or praise from people. This constant tug between light and darkness is the reality of every sincere believer.

Even the Prophet ﷺ used to make the du’a:

"O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion."
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2140)

Because he ﷺ knew that no one is safe from the shifting tides of the heart except by Allah’s mercy.

A Mu’min must therefore always fight:
– To renew his intention when it becomes mixed.
– To remember Allah when forgetfulness creeps in.
– To resist temptation when no one is watching.
– To suppress the ego when it wants recognition.
– To forgive when the soul wants revenge.
– To be grateful when tested with hardship.

This is a hidden jihad, *jihad an-nafs*, greater than the fight against any enemy. And every sincere effort, every tear shed in secret, every quiet battle won in the heart is witnessed by Al-Lateef, the Most Subtle, the All-Knowing.

So don’t feel defeated when the fight is hard.
Don’t feel distant when your heart falters.

As long as you keep returning to Allah, the battle is not lost.
*The fact that you're still fighting is proof of your īmān.*

They stood by graves, silent, not weeping for the dead, but for their own heedless hearts.
The Salaf didn’t fear death; they feared meeting Allah unprepared.
To them, every grave whispered:
“Soon, you too will lie here.”

They didn't chase status, wealth, or empty praise.
They knew the soil doesn’t care if you were rich or poor, loved or forgotten, it only receives what you sent ahead: your deeds.

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
“The intelligent one is not he who laughs much, but the one who remembers the grave often.”

Every heartbeat draws you closer.
Your name will be spoken in past tense.
Your bed will be earth.
Your soul will rise to face its Lord.

So live with urgency.
Do good while you breathe.
For one day… you won’t.
