ARTIST OR ARTISTE?

Do you know the difference between an artist and an artiste?

Many people use these terms interchangeably, but they have unique meanings. Let’s dive in!

An "artist" refers to someone who creates art, such as paintings, illustrations, or musical compositions.
For example:
➡ Vincent van Gogh, the iconic painter known for works like "Starry Night" and "Sunflowers."

➡ Chinua Achebe, the celebrated author of "Things Fall Apart."

In contrast, an "artiste" is a performer, including singers, dancers, or actors.
For instance:

➡ Wizkid, the Nigerian artist who took the world by storm with "Essence."

➡ Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, the Nollywood actress known for her significant contributions to African cinema.

➡ Beyoncé, the global superstar and music icon.

Now that you know the difference between an artist and an artiste, how would you use them in a sentence?

Here are a couple of examples:

➡ She hopes to become a great artist one day, creating meaningful sculptures that inspire people.

➡ He built his reputation as an artiste through his captivating dance performances and stage presence.
