Accurate diagnosis ensures that every patient receives the right care at the right time, helping to prevent misdiagnosis, reduce inappropriate use of antimalarials, and strengthen health systems.

Not all rapid diagnostic tests are the same.
For malaria diagnosis, antigen-based RDTs are the recommended standard, because they are very sensitive and can detect active malaria parasites in the bloodstream.
Antibody-based tests on the other hand, are less sensitive and may reflect past exposure to malaria, leading to false positive results if used alone.
Using the right test kit helps to shape treatment decisions, patient outcomes, and trust in care.
