HER MOUNTAIN: EPISODE SEVEN
As children of God, we can’t sit in the fence. It is not just enough to say that we are not part of it. Refusing to go on with the tenants of these practices, not attending family meetings where some sort of sacrifices are made to appease these gods. If we do not properly break away from the influences of these activities, whether we are physically present or not, there is no escaping the consequences.

What are some of the consequences that befall those who are afflicted as a result of these curses and covenants from our bloodlines? Sicknesses…’’

Eno – obong’s heart and ears pricked as she heard that. That is when she made up her mind to go out to be prayed for when it was time for the covenants breaking prayers.

The man of God continued to enumerate other consequences such as: poverty and hardship, certain tragedies or patterns, failed marriages, mysterious deaths sometimes every one, two or three years as the case may be; You see people who don’t appear to be pure human beings. (Obanje – which is the belief that people who have died can come back. Children who can tell stories of things that happened before their birth e.g. war stories.)

More consequences he mentioned still included anointed men and women manifesting under the influence of demonic spirits, matters you pray about go from bad to worse, families that no one marries until they have children out of wedlock, sleeping with people in the dream, r**e in the family leanage, writing final exams and being hindered mysteriously, madness in the family that stops people from progressing, ladies that once anyone declares love for them things happen that hinder the relationship, beautiful ladies that no one ever askes out, people who are deported for things they are not guilty of people who may go to four or five universities and never finish one, inability to build a house in through out a person’s life, childlessness, demons pressing people in the night, people dying before they can enjoy the fruits of their labor.

The man of God still continues,

‘’Also, there are covenants and curses that hook a particular family, community, town or village. That’s why you can see particular problems identified with them from time memorial. It might be cities you enter and you discover you suddenly stop prospering or start prospering, whatever may be the case; cities were people’s anointing’s are lost, families where females feed the male, families that don’t have prominent people no matter their level of education, certain communities are noted for their violence, promiscuity or backwardness.
Reference: Message titled – ‘Complete Deliverance’ by: Apostle Joshua Selman.’

Again, the man of God points out,

‘’There are so many points to touch but since we don’t have all the time, I want to discuss one a very important topic before the covenant breaking and deliverance session – that is marriage.

Different people have had different experience in marriage, good or bad: depending on who they are and who they are marrying. Marriage is more than the coming together of two people to become one, it is rather the coming together of two families, cultures, believes and problems in many instances .

Some of the things that are done during marriages in accordance to native law and customs have strong significance that we do not realize. Take pouring of libation, when we do that, we are seeking the approval of our ancestors and the gods they worshiped; inviting these gods to partake in the marriage. What this actually means that we are inviting demons to be part of the marriage; demons will bring no good thing to the marriage, only evil and pain.

Jesus Christ should be the only one we invite to partake in our marriage. In Hebrew 10: 10 – 12, the Bible says that Jesus Christ was the final sacrifice on the cross of Calvary so that we would need no other sacrifice in our life time. It is therefore rather sad that especially here in the south east, amongst the Ibibios, that amongst the things to buy in the bridal list for first daughters in the family is a ram (Eron Adiaha).

There is nothing wrong with killing a ram to celebrate your daughter’s marriage, but when it is slaughtered amidst incantations, libations and other rituals and the blood of the ram is then smeared on the innocent girl who is to be married out; demons have been given the legal rights to follow the girl into the marriage and cause whatsoever havoc they may desire. It is therefore not a surprise to see such homes characterized with one calamity or the other.

Covenants and curses mean nothing to those who have not received Jesus into their lives as their personal Lord and Savior, but once you have declared for The Lord, the enemy – Satan views you as an arch enemy. This is because your allegiance is no more for him. You and the generation after you are saying that you will no longer serve the devil, so he will fight back. That is why terrible things happen to people that make them ask extreme questions such as: Why me? Why is this happening to me? Why do bad things happen to good people? I don’t deserve this! So many other questions of such nature you can think of.’’

As the pastor is talking about marriage, Eno- obong for a moment there forgets her own problem as she remembers one of her friends whose marriage some years back is a perfect example which fits the pastor’s description.

ALTER VERSUS ALTER
If your life is not governed or connected to the alter of The Lord Jesus Christ through redemption,

Then it means it is connected to the alter of your father's house through tradition.

There is no in-between.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE GOVERNED BY AN EVIL ALTER
1. Evil or bad things are constantly happening to you.
2. Disappointment and failures.
3. Poverty and other setbacks etc.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION

1. Receive Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Lord and Savior. John 3: 16
You can do this by admitting that you are a sinner and asking Jesus Christ to wash away your sins with His precious blood that was shed for us all on calvary. Then you must ask Him to be your personal Lord and Savior. Once you do this you are born - again.
Legally free from the evil activities of these alters and now protected by the Lord Jesus Christ who is Our Great High Priest sitted on His throne in heaven making intercession for us all. John 3: 1 - 36.

EPISODE SIX
‘’ Father in heaven, we thank you for today. For your grace and mercies upon us all... In Jesus mighty name we’ve prayed.’’

The church shouts a resounding Amen! The man of God then gears on go. ‘’ Brethren, our concentration as usual will be on bloodline iniquities and curses…’’

‘’Our fore fathers before and even after the coming of Christianity were seduced by Satan to enter into all kinds of covenants with him. If there was famine, sicknesses, childlessness or they had any other problem; they would go to the fe**sh priest such as native doctors, water priestess and even herbalist who worship the gods of the land, pray to them and consult them for solutions. These gods were definitely not the one true God for the Bible clearly says in Exodus 20: 1 – 4:

‘And God spoke all these words 2. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 You shall have no other gods before me. 4 You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in the heaven above or on the earth below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those of those who love me and keep my commandments.’

Amongst the Ibibio people of Akwa Ibom state, such gods as: Ebe Abasi (husband god), Abasi Eyon (queen of the heaven) Abasi Isong (beast of the earth) amongst many others were worshiped. There are also other territorial, kindred, family and ancestral gods in the land that were worshipped. Since our fore fathers worshipped these gods, they covenanted with them thereby bringing untold curses upon the people which are still in operation till date.

Covenants are territorial and empowered by alters. Every alter is empowered by blood. It is the alter that makes covenants powerful. For those of you who run away from the village or certain members of your family, you should know that running away from physical locations does not make one free. Covenants and alters are spiritual.

An alter is simply a system of authorization. The assignment of an alter is to insist that the terms of a covenant remain binding even when those who initiated it are no more. It is a spiritual system that supervises compliance to covenants. There is no true covenant until there is an alter which is built and ratified with blood. In the realm of the spirit ‘blood is currency’

So for instance, when our mothers found it difficult to conceive, they would go to the priest in charge of one of these evil alters; thereafter conceiving and bringing forth children who are possessed by evil spirits such as the ‘water spirits’. From the womb those children have been initiated into the marine kingdom, they even grow up to initiate other innocent children also.

When some people are sick, these same witch doctors make incisions on their bodies there by initiating such into witchcraft. By enticing others with food and other gifts, they in turn initiate others and the cycles continues. They come for their victims either in the dream or by calling them physically with diabolic powers. Such calls come in the night when the world is supposed to be asleep and they are heard by the victims only. Those who hear these call, find themselves in the midst of their captives.

Peoples’ life and destinies are revealed through dreams, visions or revelations. Dreams rule the world. The realities of your life abides in the spirit so never take your dreams for granted. If you find yourself swimming in the dream, you need to seek for deliverance. It is not just another dream to be brushed away. It is very significant, a pointer to where your spirit is bound in the realms of the spirit. Some people see themselves playing with or being chased by snakes.

Some see themselves among outlandish groups of people eating and drinking. Don’t dismiss it as an ordinary dream because something is happening in the spiritual realm. Confession, prayers and deliverance is necessary for such a person and the earlier the better to avoid getting deep into even more evil activities which makes people to ashamed to admit what they see themselves doing in the realms of the spirit. No matter what you need to speak out and get help.

Isaiah 1: 18 says ‘Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be as wool.’

If you know your child or maybe you can be categorized under any of these groups, prayers will be rendered for you later…

We are not leaving out those who are members of ekpe, nabo, ekong, utuekpe, obio – okpo, nko – kot, obon and other masquerade groups. Before participating in such plays as these, incantations, libations, and sacrifices are made which fortifies members with strong fe**sh powers. Those who have been initiated know the significance of what I am saying. Even the knives, leaves or walking sticks or staffs they carry are deadly disasters. Why do you think men who have not been initiated alongside women and children have been warned to keep away from them? Terrible implications follow unfortunate culprits of their caprices.

You cannot blow hot and cold at the same time. As such when one comes to Christ it is imperative to break totally free from such involvements. If not you bring problems for either yourself or your children to the third and fourth generations…

It is also well known that our fore fathers use to kill twins, innocent infants cut short in their budding stage. What about innocent people branded as slaves set aside to be buried alive or whose heads were severed to be buried with dead kings? What we do not know is that the punishment that results from these practices of wickedness did not just disappear with the abolishment of these barbaric cultures. The blood of the innocent still cries out unhindered by the grave.

That is why the Bible says that God will lay the iniquities of the fathers and mothers on the children and the grand children and great grand children to the fourth generation of those who do not believe in Him, but those who are righteous will be delivered even to a thousand generations. This is why we need to break free from these curses and covenants as children of God.

THE FLESH

The greatest strength of Satan is the human flesh. You are truly not free when you are alive in the flesh. The assignment of the flesh is to look for ways of consistently ensuring we violet the ways of the spirit.

HOW TO OVERCOME THE FLESH

Galatians 5: 16 - 18
"16 So a I say, walk by the spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the spirit, and the spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the spirit , you are not under the law.

HOW TO WALK IN THE SPIRIT

We walk in the spirit when we seek ' the things that are above'. We can do this when the word of God dwells in us richly in all wisdom. ( Colossians 3: 1 - 20)
Then and only then can we be free from the flesh making Satan powerless in our lives

HER MOUNTAIN: EPISODE FIVE

The drummer is drenched in perspiration, soaked in the rhythm of the songs and hopefully deep in spirit. The two guitarist, side by side are dancing in synergy and rhythm, adding color and style as they play. The organist is not left out of the joy as he is lost in his own romance with the organ. For the praise leader he might as well be in heaven right now because though he is the one leading everyone, he seems totally oblivious of his surrounding and in total awe of The Lord.

The congregation is lit with life; singing, clapping, dancing and even jumping for joy. Everybody’s face is aglow and radiant in praise and worship to The Lord Almighty. No one remembers their burden or problem now in the refreshing presence of God, basked in His infinite grace and mercy. The Holy Spirit is actively at work amongst them. He is touching lives, blessing, healing, restoring and reviving them. Every one leaves their burdens at the feet of Christ. Some will pick them up again before they go while others will hopefully leave them there forever.

The praise leader just happens to catch a glimpse of the moderator for the day as he approaches the podium, realizing it’s time to wrap up, he signals the instrumentalist and together they end the praise session amidst a lot of chants and praise to God.

‘’Oh, glory hallelujah! Praise ye the King of kings and The Lord of lords! He is worthy! He is worthy! He is worthy!’’ The congregation respond with shouts, praise and hands lifted in adoration to the Lord. This spurs up the chorus leader and he keeps going,

‘’Crown Him! Crown Him! Crown Him!’’ On and on he goes until finally the moderator shouts a big Amen albeit with a big smile on his own face as he comments, ‘’No wonder the psalmist said ‘I was happy when they said, let us go into the house of the Father’. May all glory be ascribed unto The Lord our God in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!’’ Everybody answers a big Amen!

‘’Brethren! We have all come to the climax of today’s program, the moment we have all been anticipating. The time which God will speak back to us through His word in the mouth of His servant. I am not talking about any other person other than our very own, brother Godwin Etim. Please put your hands together as we invite him up here!’’

In standing ovation, everybody stands up excitedly as the welcome the man of God to the podium. The resounding applause heralds him all the way. They all know today is going to be a great and wonderful day. They have seen God using him to do great and mighty things.

Individuals, families and even villages have been delivered from one bo***ge or the other through his ministration. Every two years, the church allows him as a committed member of the church to minister in the church in this capacity. This gives chance to new members and invited guest who have never sat under his ministration to do so. Half of the attendance is always nonmembers so the program is always a great tool in growing the church. Today, the church is tightly packed and crammed with eager expectations. This always being the case every two years.

What the congregation doesn’t know is the battle he has to fight against the kingdom of darkness that has been in opposition of his ministry. His advice to other ministers has always been the need to remain humble and never take the glory for what God does through them. That he does himself. He is a humble God fearing and loving man who has been a mentor to so many in the body of Christ as a whole.

Though well read he refuses to be addressed as a Dr., reverend or even pastor. For him, brother is quite okay. At the end of his ministrations, everyone always clamors for a face to face or one on one contact with him whether old or young. It is always with unbelievable meekness that he takes time to attend to everyone, no favoritism at all. At such instances, his eyes bare no hesitation or aloofness, only love. His very essence always speaks of The love of God. The best way to describe it is by saying you could see Jesus in him.

You will never find expensive and imposing jewelries, questionable rings, big and bold gold neckless with equally big and bold cross pendants on him. You can never see him on any attire except simple caftans made from Nigerian wax.

Those privilege to meet his wife testify that she is an epitome of beauty even in simplicity. Very tall, her light complexion is not credited to the different types of bleaching creams in the market but a natural gift from our benevolent creator. All the features on her face are perfect. Bright and beautiful eyes, firm and lovely lips and the African not pointed yet acceptable nose. As a result of her beauty she can pass as any of the mamas in other ministries we see cladded in expensive laces or suits with imposing hats. Yet she chooses rather like her husband, simple bubas made from simple local fabrics. Her natural hair, always hidden in head scarfs and her only earrings – simple GL stamp earrings.

Just like her husband, she exudes humility, simplicity but genuine love. There’s never that ‘you are a sinner, don’t get close to me look on her’. Every women always feels comfortable in her presence, even the vilest sinner. Yet many have decided to give their lives to Jesus just by being in her presence. When she ministers in women meetings, it is always with such amazing power. Her ringing, captivating and spirit filled voice keeps you drinking from ‘The River of Life’ she draws from.

So as brother Godwin Etim takes the microphone he greets the church with a big ‘Hallelujah!’ and they respond with a resounding ‘Amen!’ also.

‘’Oh how refreshing it always is to be in the presence of The Lord.’’ Some people affirm that by nodding in agreement while others say ‘Amen!’, ‘That’s right’ or any other word in confirmation. ‘’Let’s bow our heads in prayer’’…

HER MOUNTAIN: EPISODE FOUR

EPISODE FOUR
Four days later, it’s Thursday, the day set aside for counselling at her church. After days of pain and sorrow both psychologically and physiologically, Eno – obong makes up her mind to go for counselling in the church. It’s Ekpeyoung road, one of the roads which holds many businesses. First Bank is situated at the right hand of the road just as you’re coming from the junction while some distance away you have UBA. Right opposite to UBA is MTN office. Customers are going in and out to transact business.

There are many pedestrians on the road also; a woman hawking food on a wooden barrow stops close to where the taxi drivers are parked. You can see the different meals from the transparent containers she uses. White rice, jollof rice, fried rice, salad, spaghetti, white yam, porridge yam, white beans, porridge beans, boiled plantain, fried plantain, the stew, fish, beef and chicken; all in different containers; a whole restaurant calling out to the hungry or greedy masses who did not eat at home that day or just enticed by the inviting food.

The woman selling the food does her best to look as good as her food though her big dark frame looks too heavy for her 3.5 height. It appears she has certainly been having a good portion of her delicacies each day. The flesh of the upper arm of her Christian mother hand dances about as she dishes food from one container to the other into the plate she is holding. Other customers are standing by with their plates waiting their turn.

A man hawking different types of sun shades approaches her trying to sell one to her, right after the young aboki has finished persuading her to buy mentos gum or sweet from his plethora of sweets. Not far from there her eyes meet the woman with akara and bread on her head, her big smile is her persuading tool but Eno – obong quickly looks away so she doesn’t get her hopes high.

The place is a beehive of activities. Children are not left behind in the business of making a living as they too hawk banana and groundnut… Those who are thirsty stop by to buy ‘pure water’ to quench their thirst. Everyone is going about their activities.

It is on this road that ‘Believers Church’ is located. The church compound harbors the church building, the Sunday school shed, and the pastor’s residence and office on the other side of the church building. The baptistery precedes the pastor’s building. The two new luxurious costar buses bought by two different associations of the church stand side by side proudly, making the other two older 18 sitter Toyota buses not far from them pale in their presence.

The hibiscus, rose and canna lily flowers planted round the compound in flower beds bedside the fence of the compound is an added beauty to the esthetics of the place and a contrast to the interlocked tiles of the whole premises.

Members of the church can be seen holding one meeting or the other in and outside the church auditorium. Those who have come for counselling are not many today, ‘’Thank God’’ she thinks to herself; ‘’or maybe more are coming.’’ Whichever way, only two sisters are there waiting their turn. She recognizes Edidiong but not the other sister. They politely exchange pleasantries and then leave each other to their thought.

As she sits on the cushioned bench outside the pastor’s office, she leans back resting on the back rest and balancing her left elbow on the side rest, with her chin coaxed on her palm. Deep in thoughts in the world of her misery she forgets where she is for a while there.

She just can’t stop wondering, ‘’Just what is wrong with me, if only I know what is wrong with me or how it came to be? A sickness that defies medical science, does this kind of thing happen to other people? It feels as if there is a moving object inside my stomach yet the doctors can’t detect anything wrong with

me. It’s not as if I willingly or knowingly got myself involved in any fe**sh act. As an unbeliever I was just like most people yes, I use to see myself eating or swimming in water in the dream but other Christians who had such experience where delivered and free, why should my case be different?

‘’Well, one thing I know, no matter what the case maybe, I will always stand with Jesus. One day, just one day, He will remember me and heal me. Just one day’’

The thought remains, tormenting her with every passing time. The fear that there is a spiritual implication behind the sickness.

‘’Could it be as a result on some unknown covenant? I have broken every imaginable covenant. This really is not normal.’’

It worries her what people would think if they ever knew but she tries to convince herself that there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Nevertheless, she makes up her mind not to disclose to anyone except those who already know. It’s very baffling to her, ‘a sickness that beats medical science.’

‘’Could it be? It couldn’t. I have broken all covenants, curses and initiations that I might have entered into or inherited in ignorance. It was two years ago in this same church…’’
