DOCUMENTATION IN SMALL PROJECTS- Taming Recalcitrant Clients. (Part 2)

Since there was no tangible document binding my client and I in a common agreement on contract terms, he was able to conveniently renege on our agreement, and deny all previous gentleman agreement we had.

I regretted not having a signed agreement. I could neither take any litigative action, nor fight them physically. No arbitrary measure would suffice, as the client's main intent was to exploit and cheat, no matter the facts and reason put forward, they'd rather stick to their guns.

In the end, I was disarmed and defeated. I begged the client to add a some more money to the previously agreed contract sum, to enable me complete the suspended concrete floor, however with a promise that the amount added will be discounted from subsequent works we would be executing (first, second and third floor).
It was at this point that we had our agreement written and signed.🤷🏽‍♂️

I tell this story to illustrate, a clear situation that may arise in absence of written agreement to seal the contract deal. A lot of client would prefer to have things to be informal. Infact, people may feel that it suggests distrust, when a written agreement is suggested by either party, but it is actually for their own protection.

Frankly speaking, to have a seamless contract administration, it is important to have all agreements, specifications, and requirements well documented, regardless of who is involved. IT HELPS.👍
