YORUBA INFORMANTS ALLEGEDLY LINKED TO OYO SCHOOL KIDNAPPING ARRESTED

Information released by the Oyo State Police Command indicates that six suspects, including alleged local informants and logistics providers, have been arrested in connection with the recent abduction of teachers from a school in Ahoro, Esiele, in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State. According to the police, the suspects were identified and tracked through telephone communications linked to the bandits responsible for the kidnapping.

Preliminary investigations revealed that those arrested were not the principal kidnappers operating in the forest but individuals allegedly serving as informants, couriers, and logistical support personnel for the criminal network.

The first set of suspects includes:
1. Babangida Buhari Awalu
2. Kabiru Aliyu
Both men are commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders). According to the police, their primary role was to act as couriers for the kidnapping syndicate. They were reportedly apprehended in Ojo, a community known for its large population of commercial motorcycle operators with large number of Hausas doing Okada.

The second group of suspects comprises:
1.Adewuyi Sunday G.
2.Ayanwole Gbenga
3.Rafiu Abdulmaheejed
4.Adeleye Aomide

Adeleye Aomide, reportedly a student of a nearby university, possibly Lautech, was allegedly tracked and arrested by military personnel. He was reportedly found in possession of mobile phones belonging to the seven abducted teachers.
Investigators further alleged that he provided intelligence to the bandits on how to navigate the forest and avoid detection.

According to available information, the bank accounts of some of the suspects were allegedly used as temporary holding channels for funds intended for the forest-based kidnappers. Consequently, the accounts have been frozen and flagged for further investigation by security agencies.

Sources also indicate that ransom payments from the victims' families may have initially been deposited into a local bank( Wema Bank) account, reportedly linked to one of the suspects, before being transferred to members of the kidnapping network.

However, the police have yet to arrest the principal bandits behind the operation. Security reports suggest that the main perpetrators remain within the forest and have continued to evade direct tracking and arrest.

Nevertheless, law enforcement agencies maintain that intensive intelligence gathering and ongoing operations are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal syndicate and bring them to justice.
