THE LEGEND’S CASKET – TESLIM “THUNDER” BALOGUN (1927–1972)

This historic photograph captures the final farewell to Teslim Olawale Balogun, the man who became a symbol of Nigerian football excellence. Popularly known as “Thunder” Balogun for his fearsome left-footed shots, he was the first Nigerian to play professional football in England (for Peterborough United, Queens Park Rangers, and later Holbeach United) at a time when very few Africans broke into European football.

Balogun’s football journey began in Lagos where his incredible strength, skill, and powerful strikes made him a household name. He starred for clubs like Pan Bank FC, Railways FC, Plateau United, and Lagos Dynamos, and later shone for Nigeria’s national team, the Red Devils (now Super Eagles).

He earned his nickname when one of his shots reportedly tore through the net during a match – a testament to his raw power and technique. Beyond his playing days, Balogun made history again by becoming Africa’s first qualified professional football coach, paving the way for future generations.

When he died suddenly in 1972 at just 45 years old, Lagos stood still. Thousands of supporters, teammates, and admirers filled the streets to honour him. His casket, as seen in this image, was decorated with footballs the very symbol of his life, career, and passion. It was the people’s way of saying goodbye to a man who lived and breathed the beautiful game.

Today, his legacy lives on through the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, ensuring that the name “Thunder” continues to echo in Nigerian football history.

✈ FROM FUJI STAGE TO AIRPORT DRAMA THE KWAM 1 INCIDENT 🎤➡🚫

What started as a normal Abuja–Lagos flight on ValueJet VK201 quickly turned into an aviation headline nobody saw coming.

According to the pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, boarding began at 8:10 am.
Enter Kwam 1, gold flask in hand. Ground staff, following standard procedure, asked to check the contents. He refused.

"Do you know who I am?" he allegedly said, sipping from the flask suspected to contain alcohol, a banned substance onboard Nigerian flights.

Tensions rose. At the foot of the aircraft, security repeated the request. Still, he declined. The captain himself stepped out of the cockpit to calm things… but then a twist no one expected.

Without warning, Kwam 1 allegedly opened the flask and poured its contents on the pilot, security, and some nearby passengers. 😳

Security intervened. The decision? Kwam 1 would not fly.
Doors closed, engines roared, and the plane departed at 8:50 am without him.

But the turbulence didn’t end there.
The NCAA has now banned him from flying for 6 months, while Minister Festus Keyamo warns:

> “Any airline that carries him risks losing its licence.”

From royal Fuji vibes to a no-fly list this is one flight saga that will be talked about for a long time.

Anonymous Confession 💔🫣

Good morning izzmedia My boyfriend or should I say ex got married in November last year. He left me because of family pressure and the urge to start up a family soon. Note: he doesn’t love the woman he wants to marry. A few months after the marriage, he says he regrets getting married and wants a divorce.

Before the marriage, I got pregnant which was a perfect excuse for him to call off the wedding plans. He tried, but still, family pressure made him fall sick because calling it off will disgrace them in society. I aborted the pregnancy. He got married not up to one month after.

I aborted the pregnancy. He got married not up to one month after the wedding. He says he regrets not keeping the baby. He told me he can’t live with a woman he doesn’t love. This woman stresses him out, always wanting a fight.

For someone who knew the situation of how she got married, she should be calm and give him a chance to forget about his ex but no. This man still calls me. He’s best friends with my mom and all this causes issues in his marriage. Though we never broke up.

Around February, he broke up with me saying he hasn’t slept with his wife once since they got married because he kept thinking of me and he wanted to give it a chance to work out. I told him OK and wished him well. About 2 weeks later, he called me crying that she was cheating on him. I consoled him.

We became friends again and started talking while he was giving his marriage a chance. He later told me she pranked him that she was only taking revenge because he was cheating on her. They settled and he got her pregnant. Things were moving fine I guess...

But this woman one day made up trouble with her husband and he beat her up to the point of a miscarriage. The problem started again and ever since then, he came back to me and now he’s looking for ways to get a divorce. The wife is refusing to go to court, his family members are not willing to go and collect the bride price they paid.

You won’t believe how this ends... full story continues in the comments! 🫣👇🏽.
