A day in my 100L was one I could never forget. I remember making a u-turn, leaving the original path leading to my hostel to take another path where I could easily branch at my friend’s house to say hi before proceeding to my hostel.

Little did I know what awaits me on my new found path. I proceeded to my friend’s house and just few blocks away, I found myself being chased by a dogšŸ• - One of my biggest fear in lifešŸ˜‚

Luckily for me, I escaped unhurt. Little did I know that the universe wasn’t on my side this particular day!

After exchanging pleasantries with my friend, i proceeded to my hostel humming joyfully, my mouth salivating at the thought of the food my roommate would have prepared.

Right at the last corner leading to my hostel, I could hear the barking of two bull dogs, charging furiously towards me and all I could do was to take to my heels. The next thing I saw was myself on the floor, blood dripping from my leg and it was as though my two legs were broken.

Thankfully that wasn’t the case, I just had a little a deep bruise on my knee which lead me to wearing long dresses for a long period of time.

And that was how I fell in love with the elegance that comes with wearing long dresses. You can hardly see me wear a dress that is exactly on my knees, It makes me feel less elegant and incomplete but I still enjoy wearing them sometimes and today is one of those days. I’m glad I rocked this look to perfectionšŸ’Æ

What is that one thing you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t gotten the courage to? Share it and let’s ginger you up

Some days ago, I made a post about someone seeking advice on building confidence as a fashion designer.

A lot of people are on this table and it’s necessary we keep reminding ourselves daily that confidence is not about being perfect, it is about having trust in your imperfections and growing beyond it.

You don’t have to be perfect, have industrial machines or become a renowned tutor before you become confident in yourself. You see, everyone has their days of low beginnings and whenever you choose to start is your days of little beginning, so start now that you can!

Those big designers and tutor that you are admiring today wouldn’t have come to limelight if they chose to stay in their lane or refuses to start posting even when they weren’t perfect yet.

That thing that you feel is too common or two minute, there are lots of people out there who doesn’t know it, some have not even heard about it before and if you fail to post or talk about it, how do you want them to see or know it?

Learn to embrace your imperfections, keep working on it to become better and don’t forget to show off while you are at itšŸ’Æ

You g*t this and you can do itšŸ’Ŗ

SOLDERING IRON- The wonder worker!

They made us believe soldering iron is meant for electricians, lol, that’s probably in the olden days! Soldering iron is one of the most useful and must have tools in fashion designing. Yes or Yes?

Okay, let me break it down. Soldering iron is one of the life saving tools for me as a fashion designer and here are five(5) things i use it foršŸ‘‡

1) Making grommet holes - Grommet is used instead of zipper for closure of dresses such as corsets. Before you can insert your grommet in the dress, you need to make a hole. All you have to do is to ensure your soldering iron is hot and carefully insert it at the tip of the marked area.

2) Making cuff links hole- The only machine that comes close to the efficiency of using a soldering iron to make a cuff links hole is button hole machinešŸ’Æ You can check out some YouTube videos on how to use it for this purpose effectively.

3) To prevent fray edges- A*o oke is one fabric that frays a lot! One of the secret to preventing this is cutting with soldering iron instead of scissors. You can also burn the edges of any material you don’t want to tape( like scuba) with soldering iron to prevent from fraying later.

4) To cut out Ankara patches - You best bet to getting a perfect ankara patch is soldering iron. Aside from the fact that it cuts it out neatly, it also help prevents it from fraying.

5) Cutting out lace patches/trimmings - Net lace with beautiful designs are best cut out using soldering iron. It saves time, makes your work more neat and also reduces your stress.

I hope with this few points of mine, you can finally see why you need a soldering iron as a fashion designer!

I went to a mall last weekend and I was wearing a jumpsuit I made with a fabric that cost just #1,200 for 2 yards.

You will be wondering why I’m not ashamed to mention the cost of the fabric since it’s so cheapšŸ˜‚ It’s because we all have to learn how to use little or cheap resources to create masterpieces.

Back to the main gist, I got what I wanted at the mall and proceeded to make payment when the cashier attending to me smiled and asked whether my jumpsuit is a ready made or cut and sew…. In my mind i was thinking of the right answer to give as per, I’m both a ready-to-wear and bespoke designer so it can easily pass if i say it’s a ready made. Eventually i made up my mind, smiled back and said ā€œAunty, na cut and sew oā€

I haven’t said more than that before she asked if I’m a fashion designer and I said yes, she said she’ll love to patronize me and proceeded to get my phone number and instagram handle. Na so another customer got added to my customer list🄳

All I’m trying to say is that, as a fashion designer, STOP going out every time with top and jean or those dresses you picked up at Yaba!

You are the first sales rep of your brand, wear your creations as much as possible! It doesn’t matter whether it’s a cheap fabric or expensive one, just ensure you sew it nicely and wear it with confidence! Let people see you and have no option than to ask where you bought you outfit from, it is called DRESS EVANGELISM. Start building your brand now!

I hope this piece will be of help to someone sooner or later!

Anyways, rate my cargo pant on a scale of 10….Be nice with your ratingšŸ˜‚
