TIPS TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN RENTING AN APARTMENT.
1 Think about the location (proximity to schools, hospitals, police stations, if it is located in a noisy neighbourhood.

2 Always clarify who should be responsible for repairs between your agent and the landlord.

3 Check if all the appliances are working e.g. refrigerator, washing machine, freezer, cooker, and microwave.

4 Always check your water pressure. This is also very essential.

5 Take an inventory of items in the house. You can also take pictures and give a copy to your landlord and the agent. The copies should be duly signed.

6 Ask the landlord who will be responsible for painting the property.

7 Ask the agent and the landlord if pets are allowed to avoid conflict

8 Find out if you need a guarantor.

9 Find out how much is to be paid in advance in the case of instalment payments

10 Challenge any terms and conditions that you do not agree with.

11 Understand the terms that would justify an increase in rent and seek clarification from the landlord.

12 Read your tenancy agreement thoroughly. This should include:
The date the tenancy begins.
The services provided.
The name of the landlord.
The duration of the tenancy.
The rights granted to the tenant occupying the property.
