In Christ alone.

Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

Let’s talk about the original VC in many Nigerian communities.

Not Silicon Valley.
Not Bank of Industry.
Not even your favorite angel investor group.

It’s the Church.

That small parish in Orerokpe.

That mega-auditorium on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

That gathering of believers, weekly, faithfully, pouring into each other.

Now, before you scroll past, think about it:

Who gives interest-free loans and grants the most when help isn't near?

- The women’s fellowship that raised ₦250,000 for a member’s tailoring shop.

- The pastor that announces announces church worker's bakery needs a new oven—and the offering basket becomes a crowdfunding platform.

- That benevolence committee that helped someone pay off rent, just so their kiosk wouldn't shut down.

We don’t always call it “venture capital,” but that’s exactly what it is: Risk capital poured into small businesses, new ideas, survival stories.

The church has been doing it for decades.
Quietly. Reliably. Communally.

But here’s where it gets interesting...

What if the church became more intentional about it?

Not just reactive giving, but structured, strategic investing.

Because while benevolence is beautiful, systems create sustainability.

What if:

- Churches set up investment cooperatives for members?

- Trained youth in financial literacy, digital skills, and entrepreneurship instead of only choir rehearsal and vigils.

- Created business incubators with mentorship, not just “go and succeed, God be with you”?

- Launched in-house training programs in branding, business modeling, and operational strategy?

- Partnered with ethical VCs to de-risk local innovation and back kingdom-minded founders?
