ARE YOU GROWING OR JUST GETTING OLDER?

Every year, we mark our birthday with cake, candles, and congratulations. But beneath the celebration lies a question we rarely ask: *What exactly are we celebrating?* Is it the accumulation of years or the transformation of character? Age is a number. Growth is a decision. And in the quiet moments after the celebration, every honest person must ask am I growing or just getting older?

Time moves on its own. It does not ask for permission. We all age, but not all of us evolve. It’s possible to be 40 and still emotionally stuck at 25. It’s possible to have more money but still lack purpose. The body changes, but has the mind matured? Has the heart learned compassion? Has the will developed discipline? These are the real markers of growth. And they don’t arrive with the calendar. They arrive through conscious effort.

Many people live on autopilot, carrying the same mindset from one year into the next. The same excuses. The same regrets. The same patterns that never favor them. They celebrate birthdays but not breakthroughs. Growth is not just about learning new things. It’s about unlearning harmful habits. It’s about confronting your limitations with honesty and taking the slow, often uncomfortable steps toward change.

True growth involves discomfort. It asks for reflection, ownership, and sometimes, confrontation with truths we would rather ignore. If you are still wrestling with the same fear, the same laziness, the same relationship cycles that drained you years ago, it may not be life that’s the problem. It may be you. At some point, we have to stop blaming our circumstances and start owning our choices.

Growth means you stop waiting for life to get easier and instead choose to get stronger. You stop hoping for rescue and instead become responsible. You stop making excuses and start making progress. And this shift doesn’t happen by chance. It happens by design. It happens when you choose to examine yourself honestly and consistently.

Ask yourself: Do I respond better to criticism than I did last year? Am I more patient than I used to be? Do I keep my word more often? Have I become more generous, more thoughtful, more consistent? These are the small indicators of inner development. You may not notice them immediately, but they accumulate. And over time, they distinguish people who grow from those who merely age.

Many people fear growth because it requires accountability. It demands effort without applause. You won’t get celebrated for doing the hard work of healing, forgiving, or disciplining yourself. But those are the steps that change your life. It’s easier to remain who you’ve always been. But eventually, that comfort zone becomes a prison.

This isn’t about perfection. Growth is not linear. You will fall back sometimes. You will make mistakes. But the difference is in what you do next. Do you stay down or do you rise wiser? Do you justify your failure or learn from it? Growing people make adjustments. Aging people make excuses.

In the world of plants, growth is visible. You can measure height, track seasons, count fruit. Human growth is different. It’s often invisible. But it is just as real. It shows in how you treat people. In how you manage your time. In whether you choose humility over pride, persistence over procrastination, clarity over confusion.

One sign of true growth is the ability to delay gratification. Children want everything now. Adults who grow learn to wait, to plan, to endure. Discipline, not desire, marks maturity. And wisdom, not just knowledge, marks real development. Growth turns pain into lessons and success into stewardship.

So the next time your birthday rolls around, ask yourself a harder question than “How old am I?” Ask, “What have I become?” Because if all you’re doing is counting years, you’re not really living. You’re just marking time. The clock moves either way. But will you?

It’s time to take responsibility for your becoming. No more hiding behind bad breaks or blaming people who left. Life won’t pause until you’re ready. If you’re not growing, you’re repeating. And repetition without progress is stagnation. Eventually, it becomes decay.

You don’t have to figure it all out today. But you do have to begin. Read something difficult. Have that hard conversation. Cut off that draining habit. Invest in your mind, your health, your purpose. Small steps, repeated daily, create irreversible transformation.

Growth is intentional. It is the slow art of becoming who you were meant to be. And it begins when you stop asking life to be easy and start asking yourself to be better.

So, are you growing or just getting older?

Beware of Job Scams That Sound Too Good to Be True!

In today’s digital age, scammers are getting more sophisticated — even going as far as impersonating trusted international organizations like the United Nations or FAO.

Recently, I received what appeared to be an official job offer from “FAO Nigeria” for a well-paying position. Everything looked professional — the letterhead, the language, even the name of the HR officer. But one thing raised a red flag: I was asked to pay for a strange-sounding certificate (QREDIV®) as part of the onboarding process, with the promise of reimbursement after employment.

Here’s the truth: No legitimate UN agency or international organization will ask job applicants to pay for training or certification upfront. That’s a major scam tactic.

Here’s how to spot a fraudulent offer:

👉The email address isn’t from the official domain (e.g., not ending in .org)

👉You're asked to pay for training or documents

👉There’s a tight deadline meant to pressure you

👉The offer comes without a formal interview or proper recruitment process

What should you do?

🤚Don’t send any money

🤚Don’t share your personal documents

👍Report it to the official organization (like I did to FAO at [email protected])

Let’s stay alert, protect ourselves, and help others stay informed. If it sounds too good to be true — it probably is.

Stay safe. Stay smart.

“Don’t Trust Too Much, Don’t Love Too Much, Don’t Hope Too Much...”

I used to believe that giving your all—your trust, your love, your hope—was the purest way to live.

So I did. I trusted blindly. I loved deeply. I hoped endlessly.

And then it all crashed.

I trusted people who only needed me when it was convenient. I loved someone who didn’t know how to value a loyal heart. I hoped for change in places that were never meant to grow.

The truth? That “too much” broke me.

I was left wondering if I had made a mistake being so open, so giving, so hopeful. But here’s what I’ve learned:

It’s not wrong to love deeply. But it’s dangerous to love without boundaries.
It’s not wrong to trust. But it’s painful to ignore the red flags.
It’s not wrong to hope. But it hurts when your whole heart is tied to an outcome you can’t control.

Now, I still trust—but I observe first.
I still love—but I don’t lose myself in the process.
I still hope—but I also prepare for reality.

Protect your peace. Guard your heart. Choose wisely.
Because “too much” in the wrong hands can leave scars that take years to heal.
