Pseudomenstruation is a temporary va**nal bleeding in a newborn female caused by the sudden withdrawal of maternal estrogen hormones after birth.

Cause
During pregnancy, the baby is exposed to maternal estrogen through the placenta.
After delivery, the level of this hormone suddenly drops, which causes the endometrium of the newborn to shed slightly, leading to light va**nal bleeding.

Characteristics
Occurs in female newborns
Usually seen within 3–7 days after birth
The bleeding is very light
It stops on its own without treatment
It is normal and harmless
No treatment is required
Parents should be reassured

If a woman is Rh-negative and her husband is Rh-positive, the baby may inherit the father’s Rh-positive blood.
If the baby’s blood mixes with the mother’s blood during pregnancy or delivery, the mother’s body can produce antibodies that may destroy the baby’s red blood cells.
This condition can be prevented.
An Rh-negative mother should receive RhoGAM (Anti-D injection):
• Within 72 hours after delivery (if the baby is Rh-positive)
• After miscarriage or any bleeding during pregnancy
Early testing and proper care can protect both mother and baby.

Causes include high cholesterol, smoking, unhealthy diet, and sedentary lifestyle.
