Joe 'Jelly Bean' Bryant, the father of the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has passed away at 69 due to a massive stroke.

The news of his death was confirmed on X (formerly known as Twitter) by La Salle University, which wrote, "We are saddened to announce the passing of La Salle basketball great Joe Bryant. Joe played for the Explorers from 1973-75 and was a member of our coaching staff from 1993-96. He was a beloved member of the Explorer family and will be dearly missed."

According to La Salle University head coach Fran Dunphy, via the Philadelphia Inquirer, Joe suffered a severe stroke.

Joe 'Jelly Bean' Bryant played basketball at Bartram High School and La Salle University before playing multiple seasons in the NBA. After his playing career, Joe transitioned into coaching, both nationally and internationally, including a stint as head coach for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks.

Joe and his wife Pam Bryant had three children: daughters Sharia and Shaya, and their son Kobe. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
