The difference was identity.

When I watched Spain, every player knew exactly where to be, exactly when to press and exactly what the next pass was.

When I watched Portugal… I honestly wasn’t sure what the plan was.

Sometimes football isn’t about having the biggest stars.

It’s about having eleven players following the same idea.

Spain had that.

Portugal didn’t.

And over ninety minutes, that makes all the difference.
