A popular professor of the Nupe language spoke out about a Nupe journalist, Salihu Ahmed Boku, the CEO of JINBOGA TV.
This is the time to speak out; a response to Salihu Ahmed Boku the CEO of JINBOGA TV
I am not speaking out because I seek sympathy. I am speaking because there is always a day of judgment for everything we do.
First, I have been lecturing at COE Minna since 2020. I take 300-level Nupe students from 4pm to 6pm. During this period, Salihu Boku, then a student at COE Minna, would visit me to greet me. I do not avoid people. I show respect even to those younger than me. Whenever Salihu Boku came to see me, I would briefly suspend my lecture to attend to him.
He held me in high regard and was inspired by the things I do both online and offline. He even nominated me as one of the awardees during the Lavun Youth Forum program he organized. I attended most of his programs because of the mutual respect and likeness he showed me.
So, if I excused myself from my Nupe Language students to attend to Salihu Boku, he would share certain issues with me. Later, it was about naming "Jinboga TV." Perhaps he has forgotten so soon that I coined the acronym "Jinboga" for him* as a Nupe Language expert. If I had any ill intention over him, I could have denied him that opportunity, and it would not have stopped him from becoming who he is destined to be. But because my heart is pure, I helped him, and today I am proud to say so.
Salihu Ahmed Boku used to call me to ask questions or seek clarifications on things he didn’t understand. I always responded and offered whatever help I could.
Recently, Salihu Boku, CEO of Jinboga TV, called me to ask for the meaning of "Flour" and also informed me that he would attend my Walimat for returning from the 2026 Hajj. I appreciated the gesture, but due to my tight schedule preparing for my program, I forgot to send him the written answer as I promised.
Despite my delay, he still came to Kowa Schools to celebrate with me. I truly appreciated it and acknowledged it on my page here on Facebook. A day later, he asked the same question on his page and people tagged me to see it as an expert. I apologized for not responding earlier and provided him with five different meanings.
To my surprise, Salihu Boku went to his page and made a post against me, inviting people to mock me. I was not aware until I was tagged. I then went to my page to express my anger at his attitude. Since then, I have not spoken to him on anything.
When I returned from Kaduna, he called me as early as 6:30am & said he would visit my house. I welcomed him, thinking he was remorseful about the "Flour" issue. When he arrived, he told me he wanted to do a program with me. I did not decline. I am a speaker and I am always ready to speak on what I know.
He said, "This program will be hot. People will insult you." I replied, "No problem. I am used to that insults, what else I have not seen in the struggle of Nupe Language? It is no longer new to me." We laughed over it.
I requested that the program be a live, but he said no, so that he could edit out any "unwanted speeches."
We started the program peacefully. Then he made a "disastrous statement" that shocked me. As a Radio Professional with 8 years of experience, and someone who has been in the media since 2011, I am senior to him in press activities. I immediately responded to his statement against Governor Bago and warned him: "Be careful. If NBC or any regulatory body listens to this interview, you will be penalized."
I thought Salihu Boku, as a media person, would be smart enough to edit out that damaging question despite my quick response. He didn’t. He thought he was using it to bring down His Excellency the farmer Governor Umaru Bago, not knowing it would backfire on him.
That night, 21 people called me to commend how I handled the question. I told them, "Even if it were not Bago, I do not mention anyone I intend to insult on my program. It is unethical and unprofessional to do that."
That very night, Jinboga TV was blocked on Facebook. I didn’t know until the next day. When I was informed, I said, "Astagfirullah, it is probably because of that statement." Any right-thinking person would arrive at the same conclusion.
I called to sympathize with him. He did not sound angry. But I was shocked when people sent me a video he posted. The words he used made many people uncomfortable, as they felt he was referring to me. People urged me to respond with a video, but I declined because I did not believe he was referring to me.
Not until this evening, when people sent me a write-up by "one faceless individual" that Salihu Boku shared. I was surprised that Salihu Boku would share content from a criminal sympathizer who operates more than ten social media accounts, whose parentage is unclear, who is on the run from security personnel, and who has even been declared wanted. This is the kind of person whose write-up Salihu Boku shared in search of sympathy.
It is well. "Soko a gagba, wunman gikini ya min."
I am writing this n0t for any other reason, but because posterity will judge if his actions are with bad intentions toward me.
Salihu Boku, let me advise you as a brother: The moment you seek the downfall of anyone, remember that you are also risking your own life and progress. I do not wish anyone evil. I do not fight anyone. But whoever chooses to fight me, by God’s Grace, Allah will not spare him.
Note also; as an individual crusader, I have 44k followers, not a page fa. So why should I envy you? What will it reduce from me? By God’s Grace, I did not envy you before, & I am certain I will not envy you even in the nearest future.
Haba Salihu, what did you have that I lack? What you are doing is temporary fa, the building I am struggling to build will stand a test of time. So, why reducing yourself to morons and hearsay? I thought you are quick ahead. Anyway, May God Almighty see us through, Amin
Thank you!
