The heightened level of negligence to our health system is more than alarming!
Government seems to pay less attention to the rural dwellers who hardly have access to city health facilities where relative standard of care is perceived to be better!
Nigeria system at present has even worsened the outcome as cost of services and service related health commodities are no where near the reach of the rurals.
How then can one not expect an increasing rate of deaths and related calamities?
Rural doctor check-ups (RDCs) has experienced a lot of pathetic cases of patients abandonment, negligence and gory complicated conditions as a result of lack of money to buy health for the affected.
RDCs noted that sometimes after delivery of services to save patients' lives rural passionate doctor still goes out to the street for fund drive to pay the bills of the concerned patient in order to restock the commodities already used up without a farthing on deposit.
The index patient who gave consent for her picture to be used for this update told RDCs that she was pregnant and was bleeding profusely after several attempts to deliver her baby at Traditional home to no avail due to lack of money for hospital, she was eventually rushed to one of the rural hospital in Ikwo (RIM) in an unconscious state and with little or no blood in her system!
Rural doctor check-ups learnt that her baby was found to have died and mother almost lost hers too but for the speedy intervention of the doctors and other staff who freely donated their blood up to four units to enable her go through the surgery to remove the dead baby: very pathetic that operating surgeon had to donate his blood to save this life!!!
Two months counting after surgery, no deposit made to the hospital. Should they have insisted on deposit before offering intervention and the woman dies? Or should the hospital stay without restocking her commodities, what happens if similar cases come and no commodities to use and attend to them?
RDCs has got raw experiences of what Nigeria citizens in the suburbs pass through on the journey of health!
