REAL TALK:
The painful truth about salary life in Nigeria:
The day I calculated my salary per hour, I nearly cried.
After 10–11 hours of work every day, and sometimes you will even have to work extra at home or in the weekends , you will discover you are just earning peanuts, walahi some 9 to 5 jobs no worth am o
Most especially if you live in Lagos
the salary no go still reach.
Lagos life is expensive — the Cost of living is too high; food, transport, rent, hospital bills, school fees… everything.
One day I was talking with a bike rider, and boom — reality hit me.
Some of these bike riders and keke riders dey even earn pass people wey dey go office from morning till night.
No AC. No office chair.
But better daily income.
Not because they’re lucky — but because their income matches effort.
Hard work is not the problem.
The system is the Main problem
Sometimes the problem isn’t hard work.
It’s where the work is placed.
If you’ve done this calculation before, you’ll understand
Checkout this calculation 👇🏽
If your take-home Salary: ₦150,000 per month
Per day:
₦150,000 ÷ 22 days = ₦6,818 per day
Per hour:
If you work 10 hours daily
₦6,818 ÷ 10 = ₦682 per hour
If you work 11 hours daily
₦6,818 ÷ 11 = ₦620 per hour
That means after all the stress, transport, shouting bosses, deadlines, and fatigue…
You’re earning less than ₦700 per hour.
That’s not even enough to buy a proper meal in many parts of Lagos,
Infact how much is the rent of a mini flat in Lagos , let’s talk fact here
Even though per year it will look as if you earn ( #1.8 million ) when you multiple that per month X 12 months
But when you break down that salary to per day thats when you will understand why you are not growing but our government want to tax this small income sef
Let’s talk about it.
