US Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Alleged Genocide Against Christians in Benue
US Congressman Chris Moore, who is currently in Nigeria, says he is witnessing what he believes to be a growing pattern of genocide against Christian communities. He shared his observations on Wednesday in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Harrowing Sight Inside the IDP Camps
Moore reported that more than 600,000 displaced Christians are living in internally displaced persons camps across Benue State. According to him, these families were violently driven from their ancestral homes by armed bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers who continue to target rural communities.
He said the stories he heard from survivors were shocking and would “remain with me for the rest of my life.”
Survivors Share Painful Stories
During his visit, Moore met dozens of survivors who recounted terrifying details of the attacks that destroyed their families.
“While in Benue, I met with dozens of Christians who were driven from their homes and subjected to horrific violence and now live in IDP camps,” he wrote.
One woman told him she was forced to watch as attackers killed her husband and five children. She narrowly escaped with her unborn child.
Another woman said her entire family was murdered in front of her, and her baby was violently ripped from her womb.
A male survivor recalled how his wife and children were hacked to death, leaving him with a permanently damaged arm.
Growing Fears Over Targeted Attacks
Moore reiterated that more than 600,000 Christians are currently in IDP camps in Benue alone, a figure he described as alarming and unacceptable.
