BREAKING: Independent National Electoral Commission Fixes January 16, 2027 for Presidential Election

Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced January 16, 2027, as the new date for the presidential and National Assembly elections.

The commission also scheduled February 6, 2027, for the governorship and state houses of assembly elections across the country.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Mohammed Haruna, INEC national commissioner and chairman of the information and voter education committee, in an official statement outlining the revised timetable.

According to the commission, the earlier dates — February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly polls, and March 6, 2027, for governorship and state assembly elections — were reviewed following the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026.

INEC stated that the adjustment became necessary to align the electoral calendar with the provisions of the new legal framework.

Further details are expected as preparations intensify toward the 2027 general elections.

PRESS STATEMENT

OSUN DOES NOT NEED A PUPPET AS GOVERNOR, IMAV MOCKS OYEBAMIJI

The Imole Accord Vanguard (IMAV) has expressed disgust at the apparent display of a puppet by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun state, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, declaring that the job of governing Osun state is too serious to be left for someone who cannot take decisions on his own.

In a statement by the Coordinator of the group, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, the IMAV said it is condescending to see that Oyebamiji's nomenclature before and after his emergence from a faulty process as the candidate of the rejected APC in Osun State, has so far shown that he will always be operating from the shadows of Oyetola, the former defeated Governor of the state.

"Oyebamiji who was arrogant in nature and couldn't give honour to a royal stool at Akinlaalu when he visited awhile ago, was seen kneeling down in front of a selected stakeholders of APC in a meeting led by Mr Oyetola recently. That raises the curiosity to ask who will he be answerable to for the office he's seeking? Is it the good people of Osun State who have enjoyed a human-face administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke, or just Oyetola who is apparently trying to use him to have a second term in office after he was rejected at the poll when he contested himself?

"What is not in doubt to conscious Osun people is that Oyetola and those behind Oyebamiji are only interested in feasting and devouring the resources that Governor Ademola Adeleke has been using for the development of the state?"

"The classic puppet character and lackey attitude being exhibited by Mr Bola Oyebamiji is not what Osun needs or deserves at the moment. The tremendous growth Osun is witnessing under the charismatic leadership of Governor Adeleke will not be disrupted by a puppet who cannot do anything on his own unless teleguided by some vicarious characters who have not wish Osun well with the level of battles they've waged against it
