A Federal Capital Territory High Court has rejected the bail application of former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, ruling that his detention by the EFCC is lawful and backed by a valid court order.

Malami is being held over allegations of money laundering and abuse of office, with reports also indicating that his international passport was seized during investigations into the whereabouts of an alleged $490 million Abacha loot recovered through a Mutual Legal Assistance request.

Malami has denied the allegations, describing them as baseless, and stated that the recovery of the funds had already been completed before he assumed office in 2015.
